    what about ALB WS?

:trophy: If some players didn't commit to playing in the regionals, then wonder how many more would have dropped off if Pitt would have somehow made it to the world series in S.D.? Guess that is a mute point now.

Just my opinion but if you can't make a total commitment to any team in any sport no matter what the reason you shouldn't even start playing with that team. I see in many teams that the old addage " there is no I in team" is no longer true. I miss the days when everyone played for one reason; to win no matter what the cost.
As parents and coaches we are also to blame. I read on these boards and all I hear is getting kidds seen by college coaches and getting them these small schloarships. Very seldom do you see them talking about winning a tournament. Most of the showcase tournaments don't even play for a champion just a round robin type format where everyone plays X number of games and the tournament is over. That Sucks!

I think we're being a tad bit harsh on the Pitt kids. For example, I understand that one of the catchers stayed home because his family had planned a dream vacation in Europe. It may have been a graduation gift. It was scheduled in August long after the season should have been over.

If Lexington had won the state title, our 2nd baseman had to report to college football at Appy State. No choice. So there are some circumstances here that needs more info before we judge.

Get er done or get out

its simple...if you can't finish the season, then you don't start. Alot of these young men have been working their tails off for years to get a chance to play for a state title and maybe get to the World Series. It still should be all about team and learning not to let your brother down,,,that my friend builds character that will stay with you the rest of your life. I sure would not want to be remembered as the one who quit. I know this sounds harsh and don't mean to be....facts are facts

i have been a loyal legion fan for 25 years and if my team pulled this i doubt if i would continue to be a fan. also if this were caldwell i would be much harsher than what you have read here.

So you are saying that Lexington's 2nd baseman should not have played Legion ball...based on the inconceivable possibility that Lex would win a State title? If Vegas was offering odds, Lex would have been 1000 to 1 or more.

Adam would have had no choice other than to drop off the Appy State football team. He was ordered to report. I would support him 100% if he had made that decision.

I was raised that you always finish what you start and I will always believe that. If there is any chance you may not be able to finish the season with a team you should never start the season with that team. NO EXCEPTIONS

    agree

reporter, I agree; I miss the days when you just knew that all the kids were busting their butts for the TEAM. Now you can just sense the personal agendas.

UK7Dook3,,,, in the case of your 2nd baseman, actually in 2004 when we were undefeated in the state tournament winner's bracket finals, we had several kids in this same predicament where they were supposed to report to college teams within the next week or so. Some of our parents were wondering what in the world would we do if we won the state and advanced to the next round,,, so at least 2 of the families contacted their college coaches, and BOTH got the same response. In both cases, the college coach stated that if a kid had been playing legion baseball all summer and his team won the state championship and was still involved in playing in a regionals somewhere, they would be excused. Because afterall, the coaches knew that those kids would obviously be playing at a high competition level and the coach knew where they were. It wasn't like they were just laying out.

Now of course, these were college baseball coaches and not football coaches, so your 2nd baseman's situation could be different, and I guess it just depends on who the coach is also,,,,, I can only tell you what 2 of our parents were told last year,,,, they got a green light for their son to keep playing.
