    Wossa,
Why did this become such a big issue after the Pleasure Island game and not before ? Didn"t these players play in the Pleasure Island game?

Rumor has it was a Pleasure Island coach that turned them in - which if that's the case sounds like sour grapes to me.

Again that may be just a rumor - but someone borught it to the legion officials attention.

American Legion rules are put in place for a reason...that is to protect a player from being over used. if a player wants to show case he has that option...either play legion ball or show case....legion rules are as close to the National League as can be with the exception slide rule. if you want to show case...then show case and forget legion ball....a player can not give 100% to 2 teams....if a player is good enough college coaches and MLB scouts will attend the legion games that player plays in...Congrats to Garner :applause: :applause: :applause:

    uh huh!!!!

thats why a coach will pitch the ace 9 innings on wednesday and another 5 on Friday or Saturday in relief....
wouldnt want to over use them .. i guess thats why he didnt start them..

i personally dont see any problems with it except when your playing on the same day.. hell the major leagues play nearly everyday .
i'm not pushing for players to play on 2 teams but at the same time if there is a 9 day lay-off who is it hurting ???

Its a game.. go play it

the four kids in question played ONE event. They never missed a single legion game - the only reason they went was because of the downtime between playoff series.

I totally agree. If it doesn't hurt the kids team........then what's the point?? My biggest issue is still having legion make a kid choose between a showcase and Legion ball. The pitchers at most showcases are expected to pitch 3 innings and thats it......they are usually free to leave if they want. If it doesn't interfere then why restrict it??

Also, Recruiters and scouts will go where the talent is. They will go to a showcase way before a legion game.........................better use of time to see 25 D1 prospects than go see 1-2 at a legion game.

The kids on the Greensboro team went to a showcase 2 weeks before the legion state tourn. Its a stretch to say they were playing for two teams! Sounds like nobody had a problem with it until Pleasure Island got beat.

    Legion rules for dual participation...

I happen to support this particular American Legion rule concerning dual participation 100%. As someone said earlier, its simply impossible to be committed to 2 different teams, even for one day or weekend. What if the Greensboro kids would've gotten hurt at this showcase??? How would you explain that to the other Greensboro legion players right before the state tournament? In fact, what happened is bad enough with the disqualifications.

Listen guys, legion rules allow players to go to showcases during the regular season,,, so "THERE" is your compromise. If any player feels he must do both, then go to all the showcases during the regular season. The only thing Legion officials are asking with their rule is that players do NOT participate in showcases anymore ONCE THE PLAYOFFS BEGIN. Personally, I think this is very fair and not asking too much. Its a fair compromise to me.

As for certain players going to a showcase during "down time",,,, well again I've told Wossa that I hate it for the Greensboro kids, but as for a pitcher, there's no such thing as "down time". Sometimes your arm needs to rest, and pitching every 4-5 days during legion season takes a toll on your arm.

My opinion about showcases are that they are VERY GOOD and bring a lot of talent and scouts together, so for that they probably help the "marginal" players more than the stars. Because lets face it, the scouts are gonna find the stars with or without showcases. Scouts will come to legion games and find you if you are good enough, plain and simple. They always have...

Again, just to be fair to legion rules,,, people keep talking about this 9-day layoff prior to the state tournament,,, but lets also make one thing perfectly clear, the showcase in question was NOT during this 9-day layoff. There was only one showcase in town at this time of the season and it was right smack dab in the middle of the 3rd round of the legion playoffs (July 21-23). If Greensboro had some days off, it is only because they had swept their 3rd round opponent and they should've been preparing or even (God forbid) "RESTING" to play Kannapolis for the Area III championship which started on July 24....

Garner plays Georgia today at 12 in a doubleheader I believe.

I will post back some updates when I can get them.
