American Legion State Tourney

Kannapolis still has a bench full of pitchers although they may not be your "ACE" but very capable of shutting a team down..
and like i have said before.. if the pitching isnt working well.. the hitting and defense pick up the slack.

Elimination games,,,, at 1pm: Caldwell County(35-8) vs. Greensboro(26-8)

and 5pm: Shelby(24-14) vs. Wayne County(28-8)

Well, it looks like I've been called out, so let me put my 2 cents worth in. Here's my picks for today........

Caldwell over Greensboro

Wayne over Shelby

and definitely the WOJANS over Garner.....

 

It should be a great game tonight. I am not familiar with Kannapolis but sounds like they have a great fan backing and a solid team.


Garner, like I said previously, doesn't really have a #3 starter... but the thing is, they have won several 3 game series' this year by winning the first 3... so obviously someone is doin' somethin right.

JP Primus struck out 13 in the series clinching win over Wake Forest in the Area 1 West finals.

 

JM15,,,, the Kannapolis legion team draws from only 2 schools,,, but with that said, I think its been an advantage. Well of course the 2 schools have talented baseball players, but the players also seem to know each other and mesh together so well also. As IntimidatorCoach said, Kannapolis actually has maybe 3-4 other pitchers who could start tonight's game and all are very capable of doing well. Pitching depth is a strength on this team. Of course the 2 most consistent pitchers have already pitched (Sherrill & Ketner); however, they will be ok regardless of who they pitch. I actually "know" who's pitching and others may too, but its not my place to announce such things, so I won't.:xyzthumbs

I've watched Garner's first 2 games and they are a very good team also, so yes I think it will be a very good game tonight. Who knows, it could end up 20-19 because I think both clubs are capable of exploding.

And btw, the Kannapolis community has really supported this team well this summer. Will you be there tonight?

 

No I won't make it. My uncle is the head coach of the team and I actually "could" have played for Post 232, but I opted to play for Cary during my legion career because that is the guys I grew up with/played with. This past year I was real close to making a switch and playing for my uncle, things didn't work out that way though.... (touchy subject ). Wish I was still playing right now, but a break before school ball is nice also.

I live in Cary and this is my last weekend in town before I head back to Kinston for school and baseball. So I am spendin this weekend with friends that I won't see again until Christmas.

I will be on the phone with my aunt who will be at the game though, so I will be there in a way.

Ya'll may know Baker from Garner... he played HS ball in Polk County before moving down to the Garner-Raleigh area.

Reid goes the distance striking out 5. Baker didn't sound sharp getting his first start in over a month. It is kind of ironic that Greensboro never had much of a bull pen but this tourney the relief guys pitched much better than the starters.

oh well - good luck to Kannapolis the rest of the tourney.

The good news is the Ragsdale football team finally gets it's quarterbacks full time to practice. :xyzthumbs

So far this has been a very exciting tourney for Shelby and Cleveland County.

I still question Coach Graysons choice of Daniel Folk going in the first game of the series. That didn't fit him at all. You gotta come out with a hard thrower like Trice and then follow that up with Daniel who is more of a placement pitcher that needs to get settled in.
