Hopewell defeated Mooresville tonight at home 5 - 0. Hopewell Junior pitcher Lindsay Russell, 2009 Meca7 conference Pitcher of the Year, was diagnosed with mono on Monday, and will be unable to play or pitch for at least 3 weeks. Freshman Taylor Benson stepped up big in tonights game and pitched a complete game no hitter for the Hopewell Titans this evening. Truly an awesome effort.

Tonights game was also a fundraiser for cancer, entitled "Hope For A Cure", with Hopewell's players wearing special uniforms with "pink" lettering that were auctioned off following the game. A total of nearly $1,500 was raised.

Starting Jr. third baseman Tayla Berry had her mom pass away just 2 weeks ago from a very long battle with cancer. Tayla has been a tremendous pillar of strength through the tough fight that her mom had with this deadly disease. The kid always has a smile on her face, and is one of the most positive and mature girls that anyone could ever meet. Special night tonight for Tayla as she played lights out at 3B making every play that came her way, and believe me, there were about 8 or 9 balls she gobbled up and made perfect throws to first on. At the plate, Tayla was a force as well going 2-3, including a 2 run double, and a solo HR over the centerfield fence. An unbelieveable evening for this outstanding young lady and one that none who witnessed this game with ever forget.

Judy Berry-Nix (Tayla's mom) was certainly shining down on her daughter tonight. God is good.

... I couldn't have said it any better than FPitch99 did so I just used their post and I borrowed the post title from diamonds. Thanks to you both.
