for On Deck. It shows that it was a great experience for your son. And I know for a fact it has been for many young players for a long time.

On Deck is a fine program that has helped many players achieve their goals / reach their dreams and they have been successful for many years, let's leave it at that. Congratulations to the group who have signed their NLI and hopefully the On Deck list will continue to grow. I know a few I'd like to see on there.

Back to the original post, kudos to Steven Hummel for this fine accomplishment! I do not know of any player in the Charlotte area who has improved more over the past two years. While many (Coach Cerbie at PDS, On Deck, and especially his parents, Mark and Sue) have played a significant role in Steven's success, as suggested in Coach 27's post it is Steven himself who has achieved this opportunity to play at Davidson through his hard work and perseverance. He is also a tremendous student with considerable academic prowess, and will be a great success off the field when his playing days are over.

I agree Lefty sadly u r right about some coaches being where they should never be. I also have no doubt the people over there are TRULY trying to teach and help kids get to the next level. This is fine and fair, and how it should be! But what about the OUTSTANDING potential player/would be prospect that they know about? I do not know how they completely work BUT do they let this kid on the team if he cannot pay period? If so , and I understand and appreciate, they have a payroll and billls but do or have they ever made an exception? Again, I do not know. Whatever floats folks boats is all. Yet a "lock" is a "lock" and private property is just that! PS: And congrats to all the players who got an OPPORTUNITY to On Deck!

Congrats to Steven Hummell, On Deck, Jim Cerbie, Mr. and Mrs. Hummell, Dick Cooke and the Davidson baseball program, and to anyone else who has influenced Steven’s life in a positive way.

This kid is going to get an education from an Ivy League caliber institution and the icing on the cake is Steven gets to play D1 baseball as well. Steven Hummell is a true student athlete. What is takes academically to get accepted alone by Davidson is the real accomplishment.

I would agree that On Deck has a good program and that they have done a fine job of helping kids get to the next level. Since you played there you know the value you receive. I am curious though as to why you would call out another organization in a negative way.

The other organization to which you refer has also done a great job of helping the players in this area get noticed, recognized and signed. They have not yet done so through the use of teams and showcase tournaments, but they have absolutely done so through skills camps, countless phone calls and emails to schools of interest and most importantly through their absolute commitment to helping everyone get better by sharing their knowledge and working one-on-one with every single person they list on their website. Every one of the kids listed on that site came through the facility and took lessons from their instructors thereby capitalizing on their MLB experience to enhance their own games and enable them to move to the next level. I am certain that anyone whose name is listed on that site would in some way shape or form thank the staff over there for helping them. If not, I am sure they would be happy to remove that kids name. The only reason you are listed on the site is because the instructor with whom you worked, inside that facility, felt he was helpful to your advancement. So, if you would like your name removed because you don't think you got value from being there, let CBC know.
