The "official call" in this particular game was that the batter was out.
The ump said that he viewed it the same as a bunt attempt.

Odd for sure, I've never seen it called that way.

My response to the ump was that "if she was bunting, she'd be stationary, so she must have been slapping, so the ball should be foul"[

I didn't hear his answer as I walked to my truck.

I guess it fits the definition of bunt, because she certainly was not swinging. It didn't hit the player, so it wasn't a dead ball. I can understand his call, but I can equally understand why you're not happy with it.

Given the same situation, I think I would have called it just a foul ball, bat again. Not that it does you any good.

    Disagree

To be considered a bunt there would have to be a bunt attempt, and ducking out of the way of the pitch does not constitute a bunt attempt. This was inadvertent contact and the play should have been ruled "Foul Ball".

    Using the ASA definition

I would have to fully agree with you. My memory of the NFHS rules (which admittedly may be faulty) doesn't include "intentionally." I haven't seen my 2006 NFHS (dang... that's Nations Ford initials, too...) book in a while and haven't gotten one since.
