Another "you make the call"

    Agreed, what happens when if retreating away from obstruction she crosses home with no tag.

    So by the rule any runner who is obstructed on the way back to 2nd or 3rd should always turn around and go for 3rd or home. You can possibly make it there but you in no way can be out, if tagged you simply return to your obstructed base. The rule does state you can't be out in the path you were obstructed in.

    That being said 99% of the time this will be called as an out, wrong or right, if going the opposite way of your obstruction. And as in this case you will 99% of the time not get it reversed. Crap shoot at best

    In baseball the advance base is awarded to the runner in this type of obstruction. I am not sure why softball chooses to rule it this way.

    If the runner is called out in the original situation, and a coach protests the ruling before the next pitch the correct ruling should be made. If the TD doesn't agree with the rulebook then I would suggest that coach not play anymore of that TD's tourney's.
