    Pro Career: Third-round draft choice authored impressive rookie season in 2001, then emerged as a playmaker and defensive stalwart last year… selected 64th overall after junior season at North Carolina State… in 30 pro games (14 starts) owns 142 tackles (87 solos), 2.5 quarterback sacks, 6 interceptions, 5 hurries, 4 tackles for loss, 16 pass deflections, 2 forced fumbles, and 13 special teams tackles… last year led Cardinals with four interceptions and ranked fourth with 110 tackles. 2002: Vaulted over the 100-tackle plateau in his first season as a starter… finished four on the club with 110 tackles (68 solos) and added 1.5 quarterback sacks, 2 hurries, 2 tackles for loss, 6 pass deflections, 4 interceptions, and 1 forced fumble… three interceptions in 9–6 win over Dallas (Oct. 20) earned NFC Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors and were most by Cardinal since Kwamie Lassiter had four interceptions in 1998 season finale vs. San Diego… declared gameday inactive for season-opener at Washington (Sept. 8) while still on the mend following dislocation of right shoulder in preseason outing vs. Denver (Aug. 24)… first action of season in starting role at Seattle resulted in three solo stops and three assists in 24–13 win… led team with eight tackles as Card starting secondary was on field for all 58 defensive plays of 21–7 win over N.Y. Giants (Sept. 29) and again in 16–13 win at Carolina with nine stops to complement a tackle for loss and pass deflection… near-singlehanded dismantling of Dallas (Oct. 20) with three interceptions in addition to a thundering sack of Cowboy passer Quincy Carter on opening play of game… his first interception came on the ensuing snap… second theft occurred in third quarter to squash a Dallas scoring drive… completed the hat trick with an interception in the end zone midway through fourth quarter… added nine combined tackles, batted away three other passes, and registered a solo tackle on kick coverage units… season-best 12 combined tackles vs. St. Louis (Nov. 3) included a tackle for loss, then followed with 11 tackles vs. Seattle (Nov. 10)… set up both Cards’ touchdowns at Philadelphia (Nov. 17)… the first when he knocked the ball loose from Eagle passer Donovan McNabb on third play of game to set up a 12-yard touchdown pass… McNabb fractured his ankle on the play… second score of the game occurred after he intercepted McNabb in second quarter and returned the ball 35 yards to the two-yard line as Arizona scored on first play from scrimmage to knot game at 14–14… finished contest with 10 tackles, one-half sack, and the interception and forced fumble… finished season with eight tackles and a hurry vs. Oakland (Nov. 24), seven stops and a pass deflection at Kansas City (Dec. 1), and 10 combined tackles vs. San Francisco (Dec. 21)… inactive with hamstring injury for season finale at Denver (Dec. 29). 2001: playing time from scrimmage increased as season progressed and resulted in 32 tackles (19 solos), 1 quarterback sack, 3 hurries, 2 tackles for loss, 10 pass deflections, 2 interceptions, and 12 tackles on special teams… 10 pass deflections ranked second on club to Corey Chavous (11)… no stats from scrimmage in season opener vs. Denver (Sept. 23) but exhibited impressive effort in first quarter when he streaked across the field and ran down Bronco kickoff returner Kevin Kasper after a 96-yard return which was negated by a holding penalty… ample playing time from scrimmage at Philadelphia (Oct. 7), responding with two solo tackles and batted away one pass in 21–20 win… active game in 24–16 win over Kansas City (Oct. 21) with 3 tackles, 1 quarterback hurry on a corner blitz, and 2 deflected passes… answered the call while he was matched on talented Chief tight end Tony Gonzales, who caught four passes for 58 yards… also got a hand on a Chavous interception in the end zone to quell a last-second Chiefs’ rally from their own one-yard line to the Cards’ two-yard line with five seconds remaining… though scrimmage play limited to roughly a dozen snaps at Dallas (Oct. 28), collected two tackles and his first NFL pass interception which he returned 36 yards to give Arizona the ball near midfield with four minutes left… unexpected call to action early when starter Justin Lucas suffered ankle sprain vs. Philadelphia (Nov. 4), responding with 5 tackles, 1 10-yard sack of Donovan McNabb in the third quarter, and 1 deflected pass from safety spot… solid overall game from scrimmage and on special teams in 45–38 win over Detroit (Nov. 18)… three tackles, including one stop for loss, and batted away three passes from scrimmage… added one assist on special teams and made outstanding play on kickoff coverage when he took out three Lions on the return wedge… 4 tackles, 1 pass deflection, and 1 hurry vs. Washington (Dec. 9)… three tackles and batted away a pass in 17–10 win over Dallas (Dec. 23)… another outstanding effort from scrimmage and on special teams in 30–7 win at Carolina (Dec. 30) produced 5 solo tackles, including 1 stop for loss, 1 deflected pass, 1 hurry from scrimmage, and 2 solo tackles on kick coverage… gave Cards an early 7–0 lead in first quarter at Washington (Jan. 6, 2002) when he stepped in front of Redskin wide receiver Michael Westbrook on a slant route and returned the interception 61 yards for his first NFL touchdown at the 10-minute mark of the opening period.

    College/Personal: Two-year starting strong safety at North Carolina State (N.C.S.U.)… 254 total tackles (144 solos) and 11 stops behind the line of scrimmage in 33 games for the Wolfpack… career tackle total most by a N.C.S.U. defensive back since James Walker collected 289 hits from 1993–95… added three interceptions and 11 pass deflections in 23 career starts… all-Guilford honors from the Greensboro News and Record at T.W. Andrews High School in High Point, North Carolina… most valuable player in the coaches’ East-West All-Star Game… played free safety and split end as a senior, helping his team to a berth in the playoffs… also played basketball and ran track… parks, recreation, and tourism management major at N.C. State… working toward completion of bachelor’s degree during the off-season at Arizona State University… wife Alicia, daughter Aubrei Reign... born Oct. 12, 1979 in High Point.
