I had an umpire today tell me that my shortstop had to put his sunglasses on instead of resting on the brim of his hat because they were causing a glare for him calling balls and strikes. He said that is in the rule book under what he said was "loose equipment." I've never heard of this in all my years coaching...what about you guys?

    Umpires

You have to take into consideration what we have for umpires today!!! Too many that have never played the game and in it just for the money or to be seen in the case of several in our conference. We have some that stick to what matters and it is to let the boys determine the outcome and others that try to pull rules from the pages that have probably never been opened!!!

    Consistency...

is sorely lacking across the board! Had another guy tell me that when a batter got hit by a pitch, he didn't have to make an attempt to get out of the way of the ball because it hit him in the jersey! I told him I didn't care if it hit him in the butt, he still needs to make an attempt!

It is so bad I have quit complaining and just started laughing.

In our opening game this year our opponent had runners on first and second. The batter hit a sharp ground ball to the third baseman who attempted to tag the runner coming from second. The runner turned LEFT and ran across the infield grass like he was running back to the dugout. He was called safe while standing somewhere between third and the pitchers mound! (never had gotten to the bag)
Ump would not even face the coach who came out to challenge the call.

I wrote a letter to Sue Doran and asked if it was to much to ask to have officials that know the rules of the game. Obviously it was to much to ask!

So think about it when you complain about a MISSED call......at least you may have an ump that knows the rules of the game and that is better than what some other teams are dealing with on that evening.
