Rain alters Ardrey Kell schedule in N.C. 4A baseball semifinals

Thursday's Game 1 between Ardrey Kell and North Davidson in the best-of-3 N.C. 4A semifinals was postponed by rain.

    The new schedule:

    Game 1 - at Ardrey Kell, 7 p.m. Friday.

    Game 2 - at North Davidson, 3 p.m. Saturday.

Game 3 (if necessary) - at North Davidson, 6 p.m. Saturday.

Guess they were doing a rain dance at Ardrey Kell today......the rain-out may have brought the AK pitcher back into play after throwing a lot of pitches the other night at South Caldwell, no?

Guess time will tell....any thoughts Braves?

The series still ends on Saturday regardless - they'll just play a doubleheader Saturday now.

So it doesn't really change the pitching situation too much, rest-wise

They have their rotation in order and Alex Wood is not part of the first two games. If it went 3 games, it would have gone to Saturdayanyway. So the delay does not affect his appearance.

North Davidson scares me because they have flown under the radar all year--just the way their coach wants it.

    Just sayin'....

So, if AK loses the first game, you don't think they'll go with Wood in game #2 on Saturday with their backs up against the wall?

Doesn't the rain delay potentially move the rotation around, depending on who wins game # 1? Without the rain delay, ND could've won the first two games and been done on Friday, without ever seeing him. Now that the series will definitely go into Saturday, doesn't that bring Wood back into play?

    Possibly, Double Dog Dare.

But even if the series was played as planned, Wood probably wouldn't have been used until game 3 anyways.

If AK would have won game 1 today, they wouldn't have pitched Wood on 1 day's rest on Friday. They'd save him for game 3, if needed.

If AK lost game 1 today, they still wouldn't have pitched Wood on 1 day's rest on Friday. At that point they would be forced to win 2 straight so they might as well take their chances on somebody else winning game 2 at home and have Wood ready for game 3 on Saturday back on the road at ND if you make it that far.

I see your point though. I wouldn't be shocked if he threw some Saturday depending upon the situation.

I have a hard time believing Alex Wood doesnt start Game 2 or 3 at the worst on Saturday.... Granted it would be short on rest............. If that is the case, the NCHSAA needs to give more time that a Tuesday-Thursday split between the Quaterfinals and Semifinals. No team should be put in a position where they are playing 4 playoff games in a 5 day period, that is clearly not in the best interest of the kids.

What is the ND pitching situation looking like?

If you don't have pitching depth at this stage, you won't win the State Championship. To think that Coach Bagwell would risk throwing Alex Wood a potential 200 pitches in 3 days is not something he would do. I can see him being used in spot pitching if the circumstances warrant it, but they will go with Ryan Butler and Ashton Lover, two very good and experienced pitchers, the next two games and evaluate where they are after that....also, AK has Alex Baker in relief.

The teams that have 3 quality starters are the one's that will move on through the championship.

I understand exactly what you are saying Braves, I just have a persona opinion that 4 games in 5 days is too much for this point in the high school season.

Lots of ways to skin a cat, but why not game 3 on Monday since State Championship game 1 would be on Friday...

Seems like they pace it out all season, and then WHAM, lets see if we can make them play 5 games in 4 days... Its a shame that a pitcher like Alex Wood will not get to use his arm to help his team in a 3 game series... Maybe he will do it with the bat instead!
