Game 5 goes to East Randolph. 7-3. Series 3-2 in Lexington's favor.

Zack Strickland went the distance, throwing 149 pitches to hold Lexington to 8 hits. East could have laid down tonight, but they had plenty of fight in them.

Zack White (rising sophomore) took the loss, but he went 7 innings & gave up only 5 earned runs. Lexington scored one in the 9th with 2 outs & bases empty...Left 2 on base. You have to drive a stake in their heart to beat them right now.

As Westro noted, Lexington won the series tonight with a wild & wooly 17-16 affair. Both teams were strapped for pitching, which led to one messy game. Best way to sum it up...Lexington just outlasted East Randolph.

Special kudos to Jim Lippard who retired tonight after being the Director of Baseball for Post 8. What a way to send Lip sailing: first time Lexington has made the State Finals since 1948!

Also I want to congratulate Matt Griffin, Post 8's coach. He is the mastermind of this team's success. Without Matt at the helm, this team would never have overachieved the way they did. The guy knows baseball better than anyone I know.

Way to go Lexington!!!! You might be overachievers, but you guys are winners and that's all that counts.

That's a fair question considering the football score...Here is my perspective:

1--It was game 6, which means that both teams were not throwing their #1 or #2 pitchers.

2--Every previous game except one had been "nut crunchers" to the end & got into each other's bullpens early.

3--No rainouts, so both bullpens were deaddog tired.

4--Both teams have been high scoring teams, with the bottom of the order being as dangerous as the top. During the playoffs, East Randolph has averaged almost 10 runs a game. Lexington has pretty much done the same. Our #8 hitter (Daniel Kassouf) has hit 5 home runs in the past 2 weeks. Both Mocksville & Winston were loaded with deep pitching, but we hit double digits most games.

5--Lexington's #2 starter had ACL surgery last week. Lex's #4 starter went to the beach on vacation with his family. (grrrrrr)

6--Neither team would quit. It was almost like a tennis match...When it was your time to serve, you knew you had to score.

Intimidator, the kid just turned 15 this month, & the decision was made by his parents. He's a good kid. I would prefer that we leave it at that. I probably should not have made mention of this.
