Rowan gets big road win at McCrary Park Wednesday night to take a 2-1 series lead in the Area III finals. Post 45 jumped on top 3-0 in the bottom of the 1st. Michalec settled down after that and his teammates scored him some runs. Rowan hit four homeruns tonight to aid their cause. A two run shot by Philip Miclat tied the score at 3-3. Rowan took the lead for good on a solo homerun by Trey Holmes to take a 4-3 lead. Trey Holmes had a big night knocking in big runs for Rowan including a two run single. Billy Veal and Micah Jarrett also homered for Post 342. Randolph's big hitters on the night were Josh Hohn, Ethan Marsh (solo homer), and Steven Davis. Rowan will try and wrap up the series Thursday night at Newman Park. Zack Simpson could possibly get the start for Rowan. Steven Davis for Randolph.

A lead of 10-1 for Rowan County wasn't good enough Thursday night at Newman Park. Things were looking great for Post 342 when they knocked starter Steven Davis out of the game. Davis had serious control problems. # 6 (no name at the moment) really held Rowan's bats down and allowed Post 45 to somehow get back in the game. Randolph belted 6 homers tonight. Rowan trailed 16-11 going into the bottom of the 9th and nearly won the thing, but Justin Mock grounded out to the thirdbasemen with the bases loaded and he beat the Rowan runner to the bag for the final out. Good game, just didn't end up the way everyone thought considering how it started. Rowan only managed 9 hits for the game and Randolph had 21. Lots of walks and some hits batsman. Credit Randolph for not quitting. Rowan has to travel back to Asheboro Friday for a game 5. Not sure who either team will start at this point.

    You guys are killin yourselves...
    :hanged:
    :lmao:

The money is good and the half/half is even better... but come on - these kids are tired and rather be playing for a state title at 100%.

NOW is when money becomes the problem. Why not get it over and done with?

My vote: Old format -- East vs. West, Best of 7

As for the money, yes Rowan is doing "ok". Huge crowd once again at $5 a pop, huge concessions, and I believe halfnhalf winner last night took home $577. I'm guessing Rowan is bringing in $6,000 a night during playoffs, and thats probably a low number. Put it this way, Catawba College's Newman Park is undergoing MAJOR rentavations after the season to their facility with all new grandstands, dugouts, etc,,, the only thing thats staying is the outfield wall, and I've been told their legion team is footing half the bill.

But you're right JM15, I would much rather prefer series play all the way to state champ.

I think the better team wins a series almost everytime, but in a double elimination tournament, it takes one loss early to a hot pitcher and a team has a hard time clawing its way back.

Asheboro...McCrary PArk 7 PM...it is where the Asheboro Copperheads play?
    need directions?

    From East and West:
Take Route 64 to Route 220 North. Exit at Presnell Street and turn left (westbound) onto Presnell Street. Take next left onto McCrary Street and follow approximately two miles. Ballpark will be on your right.

    From North and South:
Take Route 220 to Asheboro and exit at Presnell Street. Turn right onto Presnell Street heading westbound. Take first left onto McCrary Street and follow
approximately two miles. Ballpark will be on your right.

Randolph County is Area III champions by a winning score tonight of 9-4.

Congrats to Randolph and good luck to both teams next week in Gastonia.
