Randolph's pitching should be spent from the 7 game series w/ South. Ace Justin Yow threw Thursday and may be given some rest during this series. Stephen Davis, Ben Bunting, and Neil Pritchard all threw significant innings the last 2 or 3 games during South. Somebody like Seth Isaacs, who threw game 5 vs. South, could end up being the game 1 starter for Randolph as they try to recuperate from the 7 game battle with South.

    no telling

I'd expect to see Tyler McSwaim on the hill for the 45 as long as his forearm isn't bothering him too much from the foul line shot off him while on 3B in game 6.

Someone help me with a math/baseball question here. The Salisbury paper is reporting whining about Randolph forfeiting game #1 costing Rowan $5K. Randolph won the toss and game 1 should have been in Asheboro for that reason. Theoretically Rowan would have only gotten 3 games at their place, games 2,4, and 6. Randolph just surrended homefield advantage and have games 2,4, and 6 in Asheboro. Which would mean even after the forfeit, Rowan could have games 3, 5, and 7 at Rowan. I'm not swearing to be a math major, but Rowans initial 3 games that were possible to be at home (2,4,6) are still a total of 3 (3,5,7). Surely as an employee of a college some people can count to 3 twice without becoming confused. Had Rowan won the coin toss and been entitled to 4 games, I could understand this, but they DID NOT, and will still (theoretically) have 3 games scheduled at home. You got "gipped" alright sir, but it wasn't $5K. You shouldn't have let your girlfriend do your math homework.

I do hope you TBR folks can count and are not swayed by that ignorant rambling from you know who.

the only way Rowan is getting "gipped" is they were guaranteed 2 home games and if they would sweep, they would only get 1... i can see where he's coming from if this ends up being the result

Ok, I understand what the Rowan folks are saying now,,,,, apparently Game 1 was ruled a forfeit to Rowan who is now up 1-0 in the series, and while Rowan is pleased to be up 1-0 with a Game 1 forfeit, the FACT of the matter is that nobody bought a ticket and therefore Rowan made no money. So essentially they feel screwed from a dollars and cents standpoint because Game 2 resumes tonight in Randolph.

And legionguy17 is right, if Rowan proceeds to sweep this 7 game series in 4 games, with Game 2 & 4 in Randolph, there will be no split after an odd game, and Rowan actually will only host one home game (Game 3).

fpFANATIC, you are right in that Rowan could still possibly get 3 home games, but they would keep the entire gates from games 2,4,6 had it stayed the way it was supposed to be,,,,, but in changing the schedule Rowan now must split a game 7 gate if the series goes that far. So while Game 1 never happened, essentially Rowan will have to split one of their 3 gates if it goes that far,,,,,,,,,,,, and worst case scenario financially is Rowan sweeps but only has one gate (game 3).

This may seem trivial to some folks, but in operating a ballclub, I can tell you firsthand that teams depend on making money in the playoffs and folks who run ballclubs count on making big money this time of the year. I know for a fact Rowan is probably making $5000 per home game at the gate alone this late in the season, not counting concessions and $500 halfnhalfs. So to take away a home game from them, we're talking serious money.

If Randolph in fact won the coin flip for homefield and then elected to forfeit Game 1 just to get a day off, then the Rowan folks are saying Game 2 should be played at Rowan tonight, not at Randolph. The only solution I see the Area Commissioner should consider if he wants to make this right would be to waive the split after an odd game. If the series goes 5 or 7 games now, Rowan keeps the entire final gate without a split. Eliminating the split, would now give both teams the same number of full gates each. Just my 2 cents.

Every team that won is glad to be going to Garner. Some consider the area series to be without much meaning. Hence, you get this mess. I have been very critical of commissioners using their powers in arbitrary ways not in accordance with the rules of baseball, but it seems that the man in charge should have stepped in and told Randolph it would play or be subjected to a stiff fine.

    Randolph 15
    Rowan 14 (extra innings)

Plenty of offense to go around and some rare Rowan mistakes allow Randolph to win. The winning run crossed on a passed ball. There were some questionable calls in this game late that could've gone Rowan's way. The winning run that scored should have been out because the previous batter flew out to short right field and he thought about scoring and came about half way before going back. Catcher Jacob Dobbins threw to 3rd baseman Weston Church and he appeared to tag him on the back way before he got back to 3rd base. But the ump called him safe. Dirk Swing was the umpire behind the plate and was all over that place as usual for both teams. Rowan held an early 6-0 lead and 12-6 lead late. Rowan starter Keegan Linza was knocked around and still could've been in line for the win if the bullpen had not got knocked around as well. Neither team played that great and Rowan had some rare throwing errors late that really hurt them and they never do stuff like that. Rowan threw the ball past first twice. Rowan also left a lot of runners in scoring position and they struck out way too much. Randolph's pitchers gave up plenty of hits as well but they got out of a lot of jams. The series is now tied 1-1 with game 3 Monday night at Newman Park. I expect a much more calm and ready to play Rowan team than I saw tonight. I think the long layoff hurt them a little because they were just a little rusty. Credit Randolph for not laying over, they made a great comeback. Cy Young should get the start Monday for Rowan.

who did randolph throw? for a game to be this high scoring they had to use plenty of arms and i would think their arms would be very limited at this point...

and rowan is guaranteed at least 2 home games now
