    LP: Garrett Braun

OH MY GOSH!!! Where do I start?? This had to be one the craziest games in legion history and I know it was a record for runs scored. Rowan led once 9-0 and looked as if they would cruise after tagging Mooresville ace Aubrey Meadows for 11 runs, but the Moors fought back and kept chipping away and never giving up. With Rowan leading 15-7 and the bases loaded for Mooresville, Garrett Braun provided one of the biggest hits of the night at the time by hitting a grand slam to get the Moors back in it at 15-11. Mooresville got two more runs that inning to cut the Rowan lead to 15-13 and all of a sudden, it looked really worrisome for the visitors who once were cruising. Finally in the bottom of the 9th and Rowan holding on to a 3 run lead, reliever Billy Veal plunked the first batter and his night was over. Gantt handed the ball to his closer, Justin Roland who eventually earned the win. Roland got the 1st and 2nd out and then walked the next batter to bring the tying run to the plate (bad idea). Dylan West then stepped up and with one swing, one of the craziest games just got more insane when the ball flew out of the field and the Moors had somehow tied the game at 18-18. Rowan failed to score in the next half, but Justin Roland mowed em' down in the bottom of the 10th. Rowan scored three times in the top of the 11th and then held on for the huge victory to take a 1-0 series lead. The series moves back to Newman Park Monday night when Rowan will send young lefty Zack Simpson to the mound.

Before the game, Nick Lomascolo was struck in the side of the head with a ball and had to be taken to the hospital and then sent to a hospital in Charlotte. He had fractured his skull after undergoing an MRI. An announcement was made during the game and his mother told everyone that he was not in critical condition, but to keep Nick in your prayers. Nick was scheduled to start game 2 for the Moors, but will surely not be available Monday night.

Tough luck for Lamascola, and to lose him is a tremendous loss for Mooresville,,, but (baseball aside) hopefully he will be ok.

Yes I agree, that is a big loss for Mooresville, but I certainly hope that he will be ok because he is a great player.

The craziest thing about the Rowan-Mooresville game was that 38 of the 39 combined runs were earned (Rowan scored 1 unearned in the 1st). That is absolutely unheard of. Team weren't just giving runs away; the two clubs were mashing. With Lomoscola(sp?) out, I just don't know how Mooresville will be able to win this series. The Rowan kids seem to hit Meadows well (East beat him 3 times in high school and hit him well 2 of the 3 times; earlier in the year, Rowan had a 7 run 1st off of him). This series is shaping up for Rowan to advance, but after last night, you can't doubt the heart of the Mooresville kids.

On another note, if I make it to another game of this series, I won't leave early. I hung around when it was 9-0 to see Mooresville fight back and make it 11-7. After Roland's home run made it 15-7, I didn't see any way Mooresville could come back again. Ended up listening to the 8th through 11th on the radio after I got a call saying Mooresville had gotten it close. Hat's off to Mooresville for the comeback and congrats to Rowan!
