    Raleigh 297 vs. Garner

I don't think that schedule will be exactly correct with the times or dates. If the series goes to a game 5. Garner High School has a fund raiser that night with the King and His Court Four Man Softball Team. So there may have to be some changes made to the schedule...

    Wilson 12, New Bern 7

Wilson Post 13 (9-8) scored early and often and then made enough solid defensive plays late to hold on for a win in the series opener vs. New Bern Post 24 (8-4).

David Gibbons was only a double away from hitting for the cycle in the first four innings as Wilson Post 13 opened an 8-0 lead. Every Post 13 starter collected a hit in Wilson's 15-hit attack. With his fifth consecutive win, Justin Nygard climbed to 5-2, and Richard Carr gave up two hits in three innings for the save.

The series shifts to New Bern High School on Wednesday, and game 3 will be at Fike High School in Wilson.

    New Bern Post 24 .......... 000 033 100 -- 7 11 3
    Wilson Post 13 .............. 025 120 11x -- 12 15 1

    WP: Justin Nygard (5-2)
    Save: Richard Carr (1)
    LP: Chris Dorman

    HR: David Gibbons (3)

    WP - Daughtry
    LP - Jurek

Maurer, Jurek(7) and Bula; Henschel, Eason (8), Daughtry (8) and Noteboom, Smitherman (9).

Clayton jumped out to an early 4 - 0 lead through 5 innings. Post 1 cut the deficit in half by scoring 2 runs in the top of the 6th. Clayton answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th to extend their lead to 7 - 2. Post 1 once again showed their typical resilience by scoring 5 runs in the 7th and 8th innings to tie the game. Nate Lusk drew a leadoff walk to begin Clayton's half of the 8th. Lusk was lifted for a Logan Smitherman who came on as a pinch runner. Smitherman moved to 3rd by way of a failed 2-out pickoff play at first base. Smitherman scored on an RBI single. Jurek then retired the next batter.

The top of the ninth proved to be very exciting as Nate Smith lead off the inning and reached on a catcher's interference. Smith, representing the tying run, stole second but was stranded by Ryan Daughtry - who struck out the next three batters (2,3,4 in the lineup).

Daughtry, who came to the mound to quell Post 1's 8th inning rally, picked up the win. Matt Jurek, who relieved Roland Maurer and pitched the 7th and 8th, gets tagged with the loss.

Both starting pitchers, Will Henschel of Clayton and Maurer of Raleigh, had gutsy performances. The series resumes tonight at Smithfield-Selma High School where Clayton hopes to preserve home field advantage and Post 1 tries to get the needed split on the road. First pitch is slated for 7:00 pm.
