    No patch

    Whoa.

I bet nobody had the nerve to tell that boys mama that she messed up so I agree with the Garner coach for not protesting.

I wonder if the player had his patch on at last night's game but that was a different color jersey? My wife is bring her needle and thread and it won't happen tonight - - we will find that young man and sew it through the jersey and his chest if he won't take off the jersey. I know my son has his patch as his mama took care of that right away.

I am a proud veteran and I feel the patch is important but to forfeit a game? A warning is in order to the coach and it will not happen again. If it does don't let the player(s) play.

    Play ball.

    Game 3 Raleigh Post 297 @ Garner Post 232

    Raleigh 297 411 011 450 16 12 1
    Garner 232 001 512 000 9 13 7

Raleigh leads 2 games to 1.

A long and strange game. Big hits, hurt players, long innings.

Raleigh 297 -- Charles Wolfe grand slam in the 7th to put Raleigh up for good 11-9. Other Raleigh HR's; Max Gagnon 2 run HR, Forrest Brandt 2 run HR and Bryan Lincoln solo shot.

    Garner Kyle Hedgepeth solo HR.

    WP-- Bryan Lincoln

Game 4 at Millbrook HS 7/3/09 at 7:00.

    Wilson 10, New Bern 9

Mitchell Wheeler had a game for the ages Thursday, enabling Wilson to complete the first-round sweep of New Bern. He made two highlight-reel, parallel-to-the-ground plays -- a diving stop at 3rd of a ball ripped down the line and a diving catch of a bunt attempt in the final inning that started a double play and helped secure the pitching win for him.

New Bern (8-6) contributed greatly to its own demise, committing six errors behind ace Shawn Armstrong and two relievers to negate the 4 HRs they swatted (2 by Armstrong) in the hitter-friendly confines at Fike High School. Wilson played errorless defense to stay close and rallied from a 9-5 deficit through six innings.

With its sixth straight win, and 7th in 8 games, Wilson improved to 11-8 and visits Kinston on Monday to open the divisional semifinal round.

    Kinston 7, Ahoskie 2

Kinston got solid pitching from Mike Wetherington and Shane Deaver to finish off Ahoskie on Thursday. Wetherington picked up the win, and Deaver the save, for the South Division regular-season winner. Kinston will host Wilson in the best-of-5 semifinal series beginning Monday at Kinston High School.

    Clayton 20 Raleigh 10

July 2, 2009 - Leesville Road High School
No play-by-play tonight. Another slugfest. Clayton just kept pounding away - Post 1 errors contributed mightily. Of the 20 runs, I would suspect that only about 10 were earned.

"WEBGEMS" - Post 71's Bryant Noteboom booms two into the trees in leftfield.

"WEBGEMS" - Post 1's Nate Smith blasts a solo over the scoreboard and into the trees in right and a towering grand slam to center - the grand slam brought Post 1 within 1 at 10 to 9.

"WEBGEMS" - Post 71's Jeff Joyner with a diving catch in centerfield. Post 1's Nate Smith with a diving catch in centerfield.

"WEBGEM" - Clayton's shortstop and second baseman made a few outstanding plays to thwart Post 1 rallies.

UMPIRE PLAY OF THE DAY - Top of the 8th inning - Clayton has the bases loaded and no outs. Smith, pitching for Raleigh, induces a pop up in the infield. NO INFIELD FLY call....Raleigh misplays the pop up. Runner from third base scores. Raleigh throws the ball to third base (1 out); Raleigh throws the ball the second base (2 outs); batter assumes an infield fly and goes to the dugout (3 outs) AND THE RUN DOES NOT COUNT - triple play. Post 71 fans are irate - BUT......the umps get the call correctly!

Fine pitching performance by Clayton's Dane Hardee - picks up the win after going 6 long innings. Second time I have seen this lefty pitch - not overpowering but locates well. Cam Richards gets the loss.

Clayton leads the series 2 - 1 and can close out Post 1 Friday night. Game time is 7:00 pm at Leesville Road High School.

Raleigh Post 297 wins series vs Garner 232 3 games to 1

    Garner Post 232 2
    Raleigh Post 297 4

Just the opposite type of game compared to last nights slugfest. Well played game defensively and the pitchers looked good.

    WP Tom Nolan
    Save Kyle Wigmore

    LP Hunter Brown - CG

I heard we play Durham next but I don't know the dates for next week's games.

As SWalston stated earlier Kinston swept the series against Ahoskie. Michael Wetherington pitched 7 complete innings giving up 3 hits while striking out 6. He only gave up 1 earned run. Logan Deaver went in for the save, pitching the remaining 2 innings. He gave up no hits and no earned runs while stirking out 2. Tyler Potter had 1 solo home run.

The boys that hit our home runs during our 2nd game in Ahoskie on Wednesday night are as follows:
Dejaun "Boo Boo" Gray - 3 run HR
    Trey Beamon - Solo HR
    Lee Taylor - Solo HR
Tyler Potter - 2 run HR
Ty Eason - solo HR and
Logan Deaver - 3 run HR
I am still amazed at how we won this game because we made 11 errors while Ahoskie only made 4. Eight of the errors were committed in 5 innings while Kaleb Wessell was on the mound.
