Yeah, the final on the scoreboard was 29-3 (I think the real score may have been 29-2) in 7 innings. South Johnston HS has a very hard infield and very short outfield fences, Benson played very poor defense throughout the game, but especially in the beginning to give Cary a bunch a runs, and when Cary got far ahead and just swinging for the fences, things got out of hand. I felt sorry for the Benson pitchers, as they weren't that bad, but got no defensive support all night.

Both Grant Shambley and Eric Brady hit 2 HRs, while Chris Perry, Brian Rhino, Will Smith, and Hunter Carr also hit HRs. The rematch is Friday at Cary, you'll see a closer game then as Cary isn't as good nor Benson as bad as the final score indicated. But Cary does go to 8-2, 5-1 conference and has won the last 5 games outscoring their opponents by a 69-6 margin.

    Raleigh Post 1 ... 9; Apex Post 124 ...2

Monday, June 15, 2009 - Leesville Road High School

Post 1, behind the strong pitching of RHP Cameron Richards, beat Post 124 by a score of 9 to 2. Richards pitched 6 scoreless innings - pitching out of bases loaded jam and stranding about 8 Apex runners. LHP Nate Smith pitched a scoreless 7th inning - striking out 3 of the 4 batters he faced (the other his an opposite field double). Apex struck for 2 runs in the 8th - a leadoff walk, rbi double, and a sacrifice fly. Brennan Dorsett pitching a scoreless 9th, striking out the 3 batters he faced.

Offensively, Dorsett was the man of the night as he hit 2 towering homeruns in his first 2 at bats. Doubles by Rolan Maurer and Tyler Frizzelle along with a triple by Richards were some the offensive highlights.

While Richards gets the win, Derek Carlysle (LHP) took the loss for Apex. Post 1 moves to 4 - 6 Overall; 3 - 7 Conferene.

Next up for Post 1 is a Friday trip to Riverside High School for the completion of an early season game (suspended due to rain) with Durham Post 7.

    Another rainout

A season of streaks continues for Wilson on Tuesday. After four straight losses and three straight wins, we have back-to-back home rainouts. On the heels of last night's washout vs. conference opponent Edgecombe County, tonight's nonconference game vs. Clayton is off.

We will try again Wednesday at home vs. Edenton, go to Rocky Mount Thursday and host them Saturday. Rescheduling the rainouts is tough. The final week is already six games in seven days, with the added challenge of finding a place to play (we're third in line behind the Tobs and Wilson Parks & Rec).

    Wilson 8, Edenton 3

Wilson Post 13 played its first game in six days Wednesday night and seized early control of the Area One East Division North Conference race with an 8-3 win over Edenton Post 40. With its fourth straight win, Wilson evened its overall mark at 4-4 and improved to 2-0 in the conference. Edenton slipped to 6-3 overall.

David Gibbons drove in six runs, and Justin Nygard went six strong innings to even his record at 2-2.

Post 13 travels to Northern Nash HS on Thursday to face Rocky Mount Post 58.

    Rocky Mount 12, Wilson 2 (8)

David Gibbons, the second batter of the game, hit a 2-run HR, and Wilson reportedly spent the rest of the night swinging for the short porch at Northern Nash HS in the mercy-rule loss. Not sure who pitched for Rocky Mount.

With its four-game win streak snapped, Wilson drops to 2-1 in the Area One East Division North Conference, 4-5 overall, while Rocky Mount's fourth straight win puts them all alone atop the conference at 3-0, 4-1. The rematch is Saturday in Wilson.
