Playoffs start what... in a week? And most Area I teams are lucky to have played 10 games.

    Cary over Benson

    Benson 1 4 6
    Cary 11 12 0
    (7 innings)

Again Benson played a poor defensive 1st inning (Cary got 4 runs on 2 hits, 2 errors), but as expected it was a closer game, and Benson played better defense after the 1st. Actually 6-1 after 6 innings.

But the Benson pitcher ran out of gas in the 7th, plus it looked like a few subs were put it, and the errors returned, as Cary ended it with 5 runs in the 7th. But playing in a normal ball park, there were no HRs in this game by either team.

Cary goes to 9-2, 6-1 conference

    Wild Night in Garner

Garner fell behind Apex 15-5 after 5 1/2 innings and it really looked like everyone was going home early but with 2 outs in the bottom of the sixth, Garner put up 8 runs on the board, to make it 15-13.

In the bottom of the seventh, Garner plated one to pull to within one and in the eighth, Micheal Zeblo hit his second home run of the game which tied the game and helped Garner put up a 6 spot as they held on to win 20-16, in what was probably the craziest game I have seen in 4 years of Garner American Legion Baseball.

    Zeblo finished the game 5 of 7 with 2 HRs, 2 2B's, 1B and 6 RBI's

Garner will travel to Clayton on Saturday, then at Cary on Sunday before coming back home to play Apex again on Monday.

    Clayton Post 71 - 2
    Wayne County Post 11 - 7

Clayton Post 71 home at SSS against Garner 232 tonight at 7:00

Clayton Post 71 6-4 overall, 5-3 in conference.

Another great pitching performance by Post 71's Chris Hinton, errors behind the pitching staff kills a great 2-2 ball game in the 8th.

    Raleigh Post 1 ....10; Benson Post 109 .... 7

    June 20, 2009

Roland Maurer hit 3 homeruns; the last a 2-out grand slam in the bottom of the 8th inning - putting Post 1 ahead 10 - 7. Maurer also pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th to pick up the win.

The field at Enloe just lends itself to homeruns as Benson hit 4 homeruns.

Next up for Post 1 is a Father's Day visit to Apex. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Apex High School.

Post 1's record now mves to 5 - 6 on the season; 3 - 5 in the Conference.

    Durham beats Cary

    Durham 14, Cary 3 (8 innings)

Only saw the last 3 innings and it was already 11-3, so don't know much about this game. Durham broke the game open in the 3rd, scoring 7 runs, I heard helped by a lot of walks.

Cary goes to 9-3. 6-2 conference - 2 losses to Durham by pretty big margins. Looks like Durham has Cary's number this year.

    Rocky Mount 14, Wilson 3 (7)

For the second time in three days, Rocky Mount mercy-rules Wilson. Rocky Mount is 4-0, 5-1 overall, while Post 13 slips to 2-2, 4-6. Wilson travels to Kinston on Monday for a nonconference game.

    Rocky Mount.......... 170 303 0 -- 14 14 3
    Wilson................... 001 110 0 -- 3 4 3

    WP: Alex Pearce
    LP: Chris Johnson (0-1)
HR: Tyler Clark, Ben Fish, Grant Johnson, Mitchell Wheeler.

That's what it sounds like. I imagine these two will see each other again in the post season but who knows.

Heard the lefty going to UNC pitched well for Post 7.

    Cary hosts Garner tonight.

    Garner Post 232 - 3
    Clayton Post 71 - 10

Clayton Post 71 travels to Benson Post 109 on Monday 7:00

Clayton Post 71 7-4 overall, 6-3 in conference.

An outstanding pitching performance from starter Will Henschel. He really pitched a gem and had very strong defense behind him. He went 8 innings allowing 3 runs with 3 K and only throwing 112 pitches. Will Stephenson came in and closed out the 9th.
