    Kinston 8, Wilson 3

    Info from the Kinston Free Press:
    Mike Wetherington and Carter Capps homered to lift homestanding Kinston Post 43 to an 8-3 win Monday over Wilson Post 13. With its third straight win, Kinston improved to 10-2 overall, while Wilson's third straight loss dropped it to 4-7. Both teams return to conference action next amid a busy final week, with Wilson hosting Area I East North rival Ahoskie on Tuesday and Kinston welcoming Area I East South's New Bern on Wednesday.

    I only saw the last 3 innings on the second game. Apparantly Dylan Kipp pitched the complete 7 inning first game, and J.T. Todd (4 innings), Brian Rhino (1 inning) the second.

    I was told that the Cary HS players had a big day hitting with Percy Evans and Hunter Carr. Anyway, the team played very good baseball tonight - pitching, hitting, defense.

    Cary goes to 12-3, 9-2 conference.

    Wilson Post 13 snapped a three-game skid Tuesday with a conference win over Ahoskie Post 102. Justin Nygard gave up 3 hits in 5 innings, struck out 8 and walked one, and Michael McLawhorn picked up the save with 4 innings of 2-hit relief. David Gibbons and Tripp Sauls continued their torrid summers with 3 hits apiece in Wilson's 12-hit attack.

    Post 13 improved to 3-2 in Area I East North Division play, 5-7 overall, while Ahoskie completed its conference schedule at 2-6, 4-15. Wilson travels to face nonconference foe Pitt County Post 160 on Wednesday and wraps up conference play with trips Thursday to Edenton and Friday to Edgecombe County (DH).

    Durham scores 3 in the 8th and one in the ninth run to win yet another 1 run game between these 2 teams. This makes 7 of the last 8 games between these 2 teams being decided by 1 run.

    Durham improves to 14-4 and 11-2 in conference.

    Next game is Wed at Leesville Road vs. Post 1 (DH) at 5pm.

    Post 7 put on a clinic in backside hitting as the majority of their hits went opposite field for extra bases.

    After being largely ineffective offensively in Game 1, Post 1 found their offensive spark through stolen bases and timely hitting. With the split, Raleigh Post 1 moves to 8 - 7 Conference; 9 - 7 Overall.

    Wilson pounds out 14 hits in the nonconference matchup at South Central HS but walks in five runs in falling to 5-8 overall. Now come the games that really matter -- Thursday at Edenton and Friday doubleheader at Tarboro/Edgecombe County. Post 13 must win all three to lock up second place in the Area I East North Division.
