    Cary v. Garner - Terrific Game

    Wonderful pitching performances by Dillon Frye for Garner and Max Povse for Cary. Both kids are D1 and they showed why tonight.

    Garner came back from a 2-1 deficit late and took the lead 3-2 going to the bottom of the ninth. David Hamm hit a homer off of Frye to tie it, and then Blair Betts hit a ball off the wall to drive in the winning run (Betts hit a 2-run homer earlier). Frye pitched his guts out to the end and deserved a better fate.

    Clutch performances all over the field tonight. What a joy to watch such quality ball. Sorry anyone had to lose a game this good.

    The layoff continues. After not playing for what seems like a month we have to wait another day. Rocky Mount and Wayne County played 2 2/3 last night before the rains came. It was good to get on the field for a little while after the 12 day layoff. Going to try again today at 4pm hoping to beat the storms or have more time to work on the field if it does storm. We have agreed with Wayne County's Coach that we are going to try and do everythig we can to play 3 games.

    This time it was Garner's turn to pull off the comeback in the late innings. Trailing 3-0, Garner scored five runs in the seventh with the biggest hit being a bases-clearing double with two outs.

    Final game of the series is tonight at Garner.

    A great three-game series culminated with Cary moving on to the next round. Ben Snotherly was the winning pitcher and pitched with amazing poise given the stakes.

    Cary plays North Chatham for the right to go to the state tournament. The homeless Cary boys are on the road again.

    Wayne County advances.
    Will play winner of Pitt County/Kinston
    Its my understanding that Kinston won game two to even series.

    Wayne County has a nice club. Solid defense and tough at the plate with plenty of speed. They also have a number of solid arms. Congrats.

    As the Father of a Rocky Mount player, I would like to thank Coach Hank Jones and Coach Britt Johnson for all the time, energy and effort they have put into this team. Rocky Mount will return 13/14 players from this years roster and the coaching staff will have that team right back in the mix next year. Regretably my son ages out and will not be able to be a part of that squad.

    As an old Post 58 alum myself, I appreciate the efforts of not only Coach Jones and Johnson but many others who are doing a great job of rebuilding the Coleman-Pitt Post 58 program and tradition.
