Area III North-South All-Star Game

If I had the schedule for the entire day I would give that to you but I do not have that. I know that the showcase is suppose to start around 9am with coaches arriving around 8:30. It's going to be an early morning.

North wins 8-7 on a two run "walk-off" error in the ninth.

Really good ball game. Five home runs hit. The score was tied 2-2 in the sixth when an error and two walks loaded the bases for Mooresville's Billy Nantz who smacked a grand slam for a 6-2 south lead. Mocksville's Hernan Bautista made it back to back with a solo shot for a 7-2 lead.

The North chipped away a little bit every inning. West Forsyth's Tom Dobbins had a solo shot in the sixth. The North scored two in the seventh and left the bases loaded then added one more in the eighth.

In the ninth Corbin Shive got in trouble hitting the first batter then giving up a long double to the wall by Kernersville's Brandon Harrison. I thought it was a walk off home run at first but instead was second and third with no outs. High Point's Kyle Brandenburg then lined to short but SS couldn't get the double play at second. Then Bo Rein hit a one out chopper to third. It was a tough throw by Hunter Pate to get the runner and the throw was low allowing the winning runs to score.

Loved seeing the North go 3-0 in all star games but hated to see that last error. One of the reasons I went to the game was to watch Hunter play. His parents are friends from my Charlotte days. He did go 1-1 at the plate though. But overall it was a very fun game to watch.

Looking forward to watching High Point in the playoffs this weekend.

 

Wossa...great recap...but it was DJ Little that hit the ball in the 9th. If you got there early, you were treated to a show with the Home Run Derby. Corbin Shive and Hunter Ridge put on a great display of power. Hunter Ridge won the contest in a "blast" off. Both tied after 2 rounds of 10 swings and had to go to a 5 swing blast off. Great day for Area III and there was a ton of talent there all day today. Hats off to Asheboro for being a great host for the event!!

 

Salisbury Post only mentioned Southern Division (the local) players, but was told that once again it was a great event...

After 3 years, seems the event is doing really well,,, am a bit surprised other areas haven't started their own yet.

that's all you have to say... Everyone there seemed to have fun... Except the Ump who got litup once...

the players did not appear to have any pressure and made it easy for them all to give it their all.
