Area IV Playoff Pairings

Thanks for that. I've been to Shelby a number of times in the past couple of years, never been to SawMills, uh, I mean Granite Falls. I am trying to talk myself into going to Shelby tonight, but man, it's still hot outside. Stood @ N. Meck with my face to the sunset last night. I'd at least like to go to get an update on my Shelby roster, and create a Caldwell Co. roster.

I am happy for all of us that the people in Shelby were able to win the world series for 4 years in a row starting next season.

Caldwell Co. came into the game leading the series 2-1.
I was able to go for a while. The storms stayed away and the game was a 1-1 pitchers duel when I left after the 5th. I was listening to the local radio station ( on the net at www.realcountry1390.com ) and Caldwell Post 29 stayed at bat all the way home and was still batting when I pulled the game up on the internet. They got 7 in the 6th. Here's some info.

Final Score is Caldwell Co. wins 9-4

Starting Pitchers were for:
Post 29, Jon Sharpe, 8 innings. Cody Poarch started the 9th
Shelby Post 82, Mason McCullough. McCullough was pitching for alot of the 6th. Didn't get the 2nd pitchers name. 3rd Pitcher was Kyle Nanney

Caldwell Co. Post 29 wins series 3 - 1. They advance to the semi-finals of Area 4 against Cherryville Post 100. First game is suppose to be in Granite Falls, NC on Tuesday night.

 

Dustin Greene was the second pitcher.

Cherryville won all three games vs Huntersville and also out played them in all areas of the game. I must say though" WOW" how could any parent allow a coach to pitch their son 140 pitches after about three days rest (80) pitches (220) in 3 days for Benfield. Drew Reynalds also goes in game 1 for 14 pitches and starts game 2 for 143 with a total of (157). As we watched warm ups on Friday night the day after Reynalds 143 pitches it was easy to see he was in some pain as he would throw across the diamond to 1st base. These young men will need those arms as they go off to play college baseball. No disrespect to any of them because they did throw very well in getting their teams a victory. Legion win vs Teen Arm. Teen arm should always be the winner.

 

I am positive Bobby Reynolds wouldn't put and player, especially his own son, in danger to get a win if he wasn't sure the player could handle it.

 

Major league players do not throw 143 pitches even if it means winning the world series. Its just not safe for any human arm. They probably all can handle it for the moment. Benfield and Reynalds both seem to have great futures AHEAD of them if they can keep their arms HEALTHY. Bobby Reynolds is a great coach who knows how to win but looks like he will put a kids future at risk to get a win today.

 

I wonder if Chris Henderson still has a arm left from the last State Championship.

 

Chris Henderson was 5-4 with 2 saves in 12 starts for Lenoir Rhyne this season and has led the team in K's in each of the last 2 seasons with 173 total K's.

 

I will have to check in tomorrow to see if any of the big stars from North Charlotte, uh, I mean North Mecklenburg (it is all the same place these days) can bring up the Post 100 pitch count from "last" week, again.

As reported in the Gaston Gazette, Reynolds had an appendix problem that concluded with surgery on Saturday night. Maybe, just maybe that had something to do with any discomfort that someone may have seen.

Stopped by the end of practice today, and he was there. Was in good spirits, and said the doctor told him the surgery went well.
