    HENDERSON COUNTY AMERICAN LEGION

Henderson County Post 77 will be starting off the season with an alumni game on May 23. The current team will be playing against alumni old timers. There are not really any old timers because we have only had a team for 10 years. We will have some junior college and DII players available but most DI players will still be playing with college teams. The rest of the team will be players that have not played for a few years.

How many other Legion programs have these type of games each year? If your team does this let us know. I know my brother in law played in a 29ers alumni game a few times but I'm not sure if they stopped doing that or if he just got too old. ha ha.

The thing that I worry the most about for the alumni team is having pitching. I hope the weather is good so we actually get to play the game. It should be fun.

Both Union County teams will be pretty competitive, UC probably a little more experienced of the two. UC is based out of Weddington (but I think is still playing games at Piedmont HS), Monroe's base is Porter Ridge (games at Walter Bickett Stadium in Monroe).

Looking at the teams roster, Monroe has players from their base Porter Ridge, along with Monroe, Forest Hills, Parkwood, and Piedmont. For all the guys involved in junior legion over the past couple years, this will be the senior team made up a lot of the past two Rocky River Junior teams peppered with some college players.

A little more confusing to figure out UC's roster.

Their base is Weddington (probably an effort to get Weddington involved in legion FINALLY), but have players from Anson. They also have plenty of players from Piedmont and Forest Hills, who seem to be geographically closer to Porter Ridge. Parkwood I could see being split though. All of this roster information was in The Enquirer Journal last Sunday.

But to add on to this,I remember there was a 5,000 enrollment restriction. With Weddington (4A), Sun Valley (LARGE 3A), Piedmont (3A), Parkwood (3A),Anson (3A), Forest Hills (2A), and Charlotte Christian on one team, it seems to be right at the line if not over. Just a little confused is all.
Should be exciting down here in legion this summer.
