What do you guys think about the artificial turf at the new Ballantyne HS stadium? I read the article in the paper and heard about the big flap surrounding the cost. It got me to thinking about the kids that would be playing on it. What about the visiting players? How would you feel about your kid playing on this stuff? I realize that the new turf is alot safer but I aint so sure about it myself.

They are slatted to replace 4 other HS football fields in Charlotte with the stuff, all the time while Vickie Hamilton is making noises about completely cutting support for the athletic budgets (and hopefully, for the school system, moving that expense to the football/basketball gate and efforts of the Booster club).

Yeah ... love it ... new fields, and a pay-to-play system, unless your booster club is really active, or really rich.

As for safety ... it's really probably safer, at least the first 3-4 years. After the seams start splitting, we'll see.

Courage is FEAR, that said it's PRAYERS.
They are replacing the grass fields here in Buncombe Co. with turf starting this year. Three schools (Owen, Enka, North Buncombe) are getting new stadiums, and the other three schools (AC Reynolds, TC Roberson, Erwin) are just having the fields replaced with turf. There are ALOT of other school improvments being done as well, something like $30 Million worth of stuff overall.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I see many NFL teams going back to the real thing. Seems to me that if it were safer, they would be using it over grass. I can see the financial benefits of it holding up under heavy usage but what do we sacrifice? Like the guy said earlier, we shall see what happens on both sides of this issue when these turf fields begin to show their age.

I'm with you...not a fan of artificial turf. I think it's more harmful than helpful, regardless of what the artificial turf salesmen tell the people they're selling it to...

The message board has talked about artificial turf. Has anyone heard about the latest developments of artificial turf and how it affects player performance? I am curious if anyone has playing experience on synthetic grass.

If so, we respectfully ask you to share your artificial turf experience. Our company is always interested in feedback from athletes as we conduct a lot of biomechanical tests on artificial turf performance.
