D1 college players ARE NOT going to go to 18uA. You are going to see the uprising of more 23u teams and ASA has already prepared for that. In 23u for next year there is going to be an East and West National tournament.

Last year there was a 23u tournament that only had 2 teams signed up. Then the Cal teams said if you move it to Cal we will play, so 1 week before the event, they moved it to Cal and had enough to have a tournament.

These changes mark another Chapter in the life of ASA. About seven (7) years ago there was a significant movement in the Northeast US to eliminate ASA ball and replace it with NSA, PONY, etc. It worked for a few years, but eventually ASA returned to its place of prominence - the gold standard if you will. But like back then, it seems right now that ASA needs someone to kick it in the face (or other area on the body) in order to make changes that will be good for everyone - not just what California wants.

Many of these changes as they pertain to Gold and 'A' level play will have very little impact on California as the teams that decided to leave ASA Gold play have done just that - they left. Now the little teams from NC, Florida, and New Jersey are left to pick up the pieces, dust off the ASA logo, and try to figure out in exactly what classification our teams fit. It will be interesting to watch over the next year or two and see if this "new organization" is able to take off, or if like in the past - teams make their way back to ASA. There's something to be said for the comfort of knowing what you are getting I guess...

...hey treckpal, my DD finished her freshman yr. and still was age eligible so she played in the Golds. I'll be willing to bet that 90% of those teams had college players competing. It was cool and I know she enjoyed the chance to play. The competition was very good. The one thing that caught my eye was the maturity level type stuff of the kids on these teams. No slander, just saying it caught my eye.
Also, my DD was blessed with the opportunity to play 23U. TRUST me, its the real deal. These players play the game like its treated in college. Don't ask me folks what the difference in 18u or Gold play V. college style or 23U, because I can't really put it into words, but I can tell you that the game is just different.

hey, heres an idea for the suits trying to regulate this and deregulate that.......leave the kids alone and give them EVERY possible opportunity to play while they are still young enough to do it.

    some were good

Some of the changes I applaud. Adding regional Gold Nationals for teams that do not make it to OKC is good. Adding an EAST and WEST Nationals for 23u was good. Moving 16u pitching to 43' was good.

So not everything that came out of the meetings was bad.

I think they should have moved the pitching distance back for 14U as well. those girls will be pitching from 43 in JV and V ball for their schools.
