An update on ASA qualifier: We were not able to get the National ASA to change the 18U SE regional from the May date so NC teams could play there, however we did get them to agree to give the ASA State champion a national berth! Thanks to Ray for his assistant and to Tony Laws of ASA for all the work he put into getting this done for our NC teams. I think if we can get this softball organization put together that has been kicked around on this site, we can make more of a difference with ASA, NSA, USSSA, and others. NC softball is getting better and we need to bond together and make sure we get more opportunity in our fair state. Thanks to all of U that helped with this situation. RET :woohoo: :lalala:

That's great news! Now we need to get more teams from NC involved and playing ASA.

As for the coaches association, my thinking is to have a preliminary meeting this summer, then have a formal organizational meeting in early fall. With school ball starting and tournaments not far behind, I think we would have a better response if we didn't try to rush something now. Just my thoughts.

Look like the same date as the Salisbury showcase/NSA state tournament

For any 18u team, IMO the ASA tournament would be a better choice. Better competition, more college coaches will be in Morganton.

It is also the week of the AAU NAtionals but if you want to be where the college coaches are going to be, be at Morganton

    asa

Playing a couple games at the ASA STATES will have more of a impact on being seen and remember than winning the NSA and AAU nationals both.
    Just from my experience

The NSA Showcase tournament that same weekend as well as the state are good tournaments to be at as well. You need a mix of very high profile tournaments where a lot of coaches are in attendance and then a few tournaments where local area coaches can be in attendance as well. ASA state is a good tournament but depending upon your mix the NSA state and showcase can meet your objectives as well.

ASA states may not have to many coaches but if U win it U get a berth to Nationals where over 300 coaches will attend. Howard at NSA is working hard to get coaches out to the NSA Showcase and States and is already having meeting to assure that things run smoothly! Tough choice as I think Howard will have a good turnout this year. NSR is involved again and are very open to suggestions to make things better. AAU is just not going to get the older teams any exposure. Great organization for the younger teams with announcers, good fields, umpires, and usually good food for us that eat to much. Each organization has its on plan and goals, each event will fit various organizations. Hey summer is close! In the mean time see some good HS ball somewhere and some good college ball all over NC. :bananalam
