For all the old timers on here! Yes that means you if you are over age 30. Tell us what you did on a court, field, track, pool, bowling alley, ocean, ramp, mat, rink etc etc... when you were young?

I will go first: Stretchy ran the NYC marathon in 1983 in a time of 3:42

Got 3rd place in the county wide Punt,Pass, and Kick when I was 10 & again at 11. I placed the first time because I noticed that one of the judges had added my score incorrectly. It left one of my best friends heartbroken. Edited to add that it was in the late 60s in Bladen County, pop. 25,000.

oh yes, I've been waiting for this opportunity....

I made a desperation shot from half-court at the end of a middle school basketball game. Back in that day it only counted for 2 points and we still lost the game. :earmuffs::arge:

    Lets see

back in my day hs was 10th thru 12th - 9th graders went to Jr High. In football I was all conference my jr year on defense. My sr year I was all conference defense and offense and made the All Metro Team and was selected to the All East squad. I played for Monte Davis at Southern Durham HS.

In baseball I was cut my soph year. And should have been. I wasnt good enough and I didnt work at baseball. My jr year I ran track because I was afraid I would get cut again. My senior year I decided to actually work at the game and made the team. I started at SS and made all conference.

I played football at Chowan College and enjoyed every minute of it.

What I am most proud of is playing with a broken collar bone half my senior year. I never was late for one practice or missed a practice my entire hs career. Knocking out two guys in one game. And most of all saying I played for Monte Davis. One of the greatest men I have ever known.

    Old memories!

Basketball: first dunk in a game came during a summer basketball camp going into my freshman year. Played varsity for 1/2 freshman season, and next 3 years. Was all conference for 3 years. (didn't always have the extra baggage:basket:) Didn't want to leave home so went to a brevard juco, started both years and then transferred and played at WCU for one year. Didn't play my senior year, got married and had to go to work.

Baseball: started at shortstop on the varsity fresh, soph, junior years and quit mid season all 3 years. Coach would always say something that pissed me off and I would walk off. Hummmm, wonder if it might have been me! New coach my senior year and I went back out and played 3rd base and made all conference. Hit 4 jacks my senior year including a walk off to win the conference and send us to the state playoffs. Once fielded a ball at third base and tried to throw a runner out at the plate and threw it over the backstop into the parking lot.

Made alot of mistakes and alot of poor decisions, but I wouldn't trade any of it for the world! Just hope my children do as I say and not as I did.

    In my day

I had 11 assists my soph. year in a game against Person Co.(Roxboro) in 1982. I played 2nd base and at one stretch for 2 innings, 6 straight ground balls came to me. I was dubbed the next Glenn Hubbard ( at least in my mind). I also played club football at UNCW during my college years. I scored 2 TD's, 1 against UNC's club team, and the other against Duke's. I'm a State fan, so I tell that story to my children all the time. I think they're starting to wonder what "club" is, especially since they don't ever see UNCW football team on ESPN.

    Golf; obviously

I won a state championship in golf in high school. But its a little like AAU/USSSA/Triple Crown. They have three championships I think.

I was not very good at baseball but I loved it. A good youth player but I must admit I was not much in HS. Finally stuck to golf.

    What I Watched

My story isn't what I accomplished, but rather what I was fortunate to watch. When I was 16, I got to attend the '84 LA Olympics with my parents. My Dad worked for a corporate sponsor.

I saw 2 events a day for a week including Evander Holyfield in boxing, and Mary Lou Retton in gymnastics, and the US take to gold in a cycling event. The best part, by far was that I was lucky enough to attend the Opening Ceremonies. It was an amazing experience.
