G'man, did you play baseball at Pinecrest HS anytime in the period 1974 - 1977? I played at South Johnston & seems we played Pinecrest in a playoff game.

We moved from Pinehurst the day I finished the 8th grade up to Sugar Mountian near Boone. We were there until the end of the next summer when we then moved to Raleigh. My Dad was with Jim Holshouser's Administration and I finished high school at the "castle" at the corner of Peace and St Mary's... Broughton HS.
It was funny when I told my friends in Boone that I was moving and would be going to Broughton. Not being from the western part of the state I didn't realize that folks up there, when they hear the name Broughton, think it's the mental hospital in Morganton. I got a lot of odd looks until I said it was a high school in Raleigh.
With all the time and money I have spent over the past years on baseball maybe I should have gone to the "other" Broughton!

East, I didn't play any more baseball after moving from Pinehurst (or golf!). If you were at SJ then you must have known Johnny Parker at SSS and Danny Medlin at SJ. We became friends when we were all at ASU. We all lost touch after college but have in the past few years re-connected through our son's baseball. My son played with Grimes Medlin in the Greater Raleigh League and he and Colin became friends while playing with the Dirtbags. We stay in touch now as our kids chase their dreams. Ain't baseball great?

    The Parker's

What a great guy. Colin was a pleasure to coach and I wish him the best on the college field. Baseball friends are the best.

    Golf:
Played the Illinois Junior Golf Association circuit from ages 12-17. Had a top 16 finish in the Chick Evans Memorial in stroke play to qualify for match play. Lost 1st round match in 19 holes to eventual runner up. That tournament earned me a spot in the IJGA Tournament of Champions. Played 4 years in HS and also in College (4 year scholarship), and in college was a member of the 3-time Chicagoland Collegiate Golf Association championship team.

    Hockey:
played 2 years in HS, and 4 years in college, although college was club (not officially recognized by NCAA). My sr. year of HS, played into the state quarters v. Barrington HS. Their goalie was Dan Wilson (one day would be the catcher for the Seattle Mariners). I scored 2 on him,. before suffering a shoulder injury--ironically, the guy that blew up my shoulder died after he graduated HS in a drunk driving incident. Collegiately, we played against the likes of Illinois State, Illinois, Northern Illinois, and others. None of our teams were ever really any good, but the memories are priceless.

I have had a few good ones in football (playing for 2 years against Art Monk) and 4 yr starter on Varsity in a school that had 4500 students. Baseball (All State/All Region in the late 1970's.

But the one I am most proud of is representing the USA (East Coast) in the 1975 and 1976 Babe Ruth World Series. It used to be held in Ft.Lauderdale - and it was a big deal back then. Teams from all over the world - and 3 other Teams from the USA. And you had to win to get there. (Just about every single player on my team was drafted.)

That was my biggest and proudest thrill.

    In second grade--------

I won the halloween king contest at my school!!Yes, it was an athletic feat as I walked many a mile to collect those pennies (one penny, one vote) that brought me first place at the finish of this elite event.
As I look back on this now as an adult I have but one regret.I wish I had saved the crown that they placed on my head that night.Oh it was an outstanding crown made of the finest cardboard available to man at the time (about 1964),complete with silver spray paint and glued on glitter,it was a sight to see!You might say why in the world do you wish you had saved that thing?
Well I"ll tell you guys, had I saved the crown I know of a perfect modern day use for it.I would present the crown to my good friend Stretchy,THE CROWN PRINCE OF BASEBALL!!!!With that crown and the baseball glove that Braves supplied him with on the baseball card it would be a sight to behold. No one I know deserves the title and the crown more than Shretch! He has touched the lives of many a kid including both of mine, and I am (seriously) gratefull for that.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

If not for good friends I would be lonely

Let's see: I now have an oversized glove from Braves and an oversized crown from oldbbguy....now all I need is an oversized peanut from SoutherNo1 and I should be able to get entry to the Playboy mansion Halloween party!!! Anyone want a ride to Chicago in my Stretchlimo?

    LOL

Braves - not only was he big in high school - and a great football player - he was also one of the best track athletes White Plains High School ever had.

Very difficult guy to deal with on the football field.
