I hear too many times that a good coach is someone who has "been there, done that"...not sure what the heck that means anyway. PLAYING whatever sport at high levels doesn't mean you can be a good coach, whereas I can definitely see where it can help, but it's not necessary in my opinion. I've seen too many instances to dispute that mindset.

A good coach is someone that can relate to the kids. That's adjusting to several different personalities that react in many different ways to what you ask of them and expect out of them.

A good coach is someone that can admit that they don't know everything and is willing to take help when offered. And is also actively willing to increase their knowledge of the sport.

A good coach is someone willing to admit their mistakes and learn from them.

A good coach is someone willing to adjust, not only to varyious personalities but also to the times.

A good coach doesn't boast about themselves, puts the kids first, and stays in the background so the kids/team can shine.

I believe the best attribute a coach can have is the ablity to obtain the trust of his or her players...As a player I want to know my coach is going to be there for me through thick or thin...Through wins and losses...Through great plays and errors...And when its all over knowing he or she only did what they thought was best for the team or me...

If you meet a potential team that you want to play on, and the coach is bad mouthing a former or current player, would you really want to play on that team??? wouldnt you realize that the odds of you being bad mouthed are substanial also???? just a thought.....

    Oh Dear Sweet Cheeze...

If only we could all live in the world of doing the right thing, Ha Ha! Unfortunately, that is exactly what lures some people, to a team! That might just be where some of the confusion came from! LOL Not to mention, some people/coaches, show you one side at the beginning and they show the otherside after you are on board! It is a tactic a LOT of coaches use! A LOT of parents/players use it as well!
If everyone would just show their TRUE self, right off the bat, then we would all know who we like/trust, etc., right off the bat! But then I don't guess we would have to be on TBR discussing this very issue, would we? Ha Ha! Oh well it is true, everything happens for a reason!

    Sounds familiar....

wow....sounds incredibly familiar.....played a few pick-up tournaments with a 14U team moving up to 16U, and the coach for that team was like...WHOA....hmmmmm...lemme quote him......"I just want you all to know that if you EVER leave MY team, you will NEVER come back......just like XXXXX who went to play with XXXXX....she can kiss her sweet a** goodbye.....she will never step foot on MY field again..."

Yeah...well.... the girls was friends and after she left, they wouldn't even speak to her when they walked past her. I think that's TERRIBLE of a coach to instill those words into a girl's head and pretty much try and sway them to not like her anymore because she didn't play for them.

there have been so MANY girl's to leave, almost like a revolving door........
It's ALL about the COACHING....he's always "recriuting recruiting recruiting" or in "sell mode"....WHATEVER...he DOES know his game.....but his REAL self is what's killing that team.....
