I have to disagree with you on this one! I feel that for the majority of posts in this thread have been about good things we look for in a coach! I also disagree that this thread has come off as ALL COACHES ARE BAD! We have pointed out numerous things that are good about coaches in this thread! Just because a few comments were made, that included something negative in them, doesn't mean that this thread has been a coach bassing thread!

ONCE AGAIN WE AS PARENTS SHOULD BE TEACHING POSITIVE ATTITIDE LOOKING AT THIS MOST HAVE FORGOT WHAT THEY TOUGHT
Positive attitude is absolutely a great thing for parents to practice/preach and teach! But this thread is about what Attibutes In A Coach??? Yes, I do like to see positive attitude in a coach.

LETS HERE ABOUT SOME GOOD THINGS ALL THESE PEOPLE DO IN

COACHING ARE DD BAD NEEDS TO BE LEFT ALONE IT WILL GO AWAY WHEN IT BECOMES SILENT POSITIVE THINGS WILL LAST A LIFETIME
Coaching our DDs bad, could be an extremely long lasting memory for the DD, depending on the situation. It doesn't just go away!
Especially, if no one ever says anything about it, and the bad treatment given out by a particular coach, is left unchecked! That is like saying, is we sweep this all under the rug, no one will ever know! No not until a huge lump appears in th efloor or the floor rots out!
I am just saying we are having a very mature conversation about Attribute we look for in a coach, not bashing anyone! No harm meant, No foul commited!

How can any Coach go out there and not continue to be a positive influence on these players and promote the true meaning of sportsmanship, commitment, and dedication, with players and parents like this. These are the Real reasons, I would hope, we get involved in coaching in the first place. On the way home after the last game I was questioning where I went wrong over the last couple of weeks of practice. After I received this email I realized that nothing went wrong in practice it was just one of those weekends, and we have all had them. As they say "On any given day any team can be beaten" Not that we are any powerhouse softball team but we have a pretty decent fundamental team that plays tough and never gives up. We constantly joke about we should change our name to the "Cardiac Comebacks" because of the number of games we have won from the "tie-breaker".

Enough for now, I just wanted to share my good fortune with all of you, because sometimes we seldom get the thanks for the work we put in. This is what makes it all worthwhile.

it happens frequently that we start talking about the good things and one bad subject comes up that quite a few have experienced. most want to share those experiences so that the ones behind them will not have to go through that troubled time, as they did.

i believe that there are 100 great coaches for every not so great coach. you just have to do your research as others have posted and look for the qualities that you desire a coach to pass on to your daughter.

i appreciate everyones input on this subject..

I talked with Lester a while back while trying to find a team for my DD. He opened his arms to her and let her practice with them as well as play in a tournament. His team is very hard working and his parents are some of the best around. Even when we told him we found another team, he still treated us like family. Thanks Coach Cragan!

It just happened a few months ago ,and without saying who it was it's a shame,because this individual has so many contacts / knowledge of the game,and could really help kids,but it appears that they are in it for the GLORY !!! You know Jim B. I believe was a good honest Christian man in the beginning of his ministry,but money and fame got in the way and his focus turned to GREED,and this in turn took his focus off his true path...it's a shame,but in our nature we are selfish people,and it seems that what swells up in us is what RULES us !!!

Sadly there is bad in every aspect of life....

There are sadly, bad things/people, in every aspect of life. Thankfully, there are also good, great, marvelous, and wonderful things/people, that you come across everyday as well.
I like to think that the coaches that did wrong by my DD, taught my DD and me something and we learned from the experience, it might not have been what we wanted to learn, but we learned something.
I also take comfort in knowing, that one day they will have to face the ultimate judge and answer for their actions!
When it comes down to the root of the situation, my DD got her college softball scholarship and life is grand! So those coaches did not get what they wanted in the long run, but my DD did! So Good overcame bad after all!

Old saying

..... is the Cream always rises to the top !!!. Believe me, I have BIT my lip till I have a gaping hole in it now , for 5-6 yrs for my DD ,cause she loved her head coach. One of the BEST men I know, good as Gold. But 1 of the assistant coaches kept a big, black cloud over the whole team. All is well now, & we are going to enjoy our last yr. ROCK ON !!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow do I know what you mean about biting that lip! There should be an entire section of people walking around with 1 lip missing, LOL Because there is a lot of lip biting going on, oh well you do what you have to do, to get through! Just remember to learn something from the experience!
