Back to school weekend for most

Mine actually went last weekend to Methodist as a Freshman.

I was curious how other parents felt leaving that campus knowing your son or daughter would be away from the home for the first time out on their own.

I hated leaving last weekend although he was home this weekend to get his clothes washed and stuff.

 

I bet there were a lot of sore backs this weekend and last moving their kids into their dorms.

Also, I wonder what the parents feelings are after sending their kids too college?

 

ok, i will admit it first! my wife and i never listen to country music, but that day we dropped off our first DD @ NC State(5 years ago), we did for the 3 1/2 hour drive home. Joyous tears, a sense of great pride and somewhat of a feeling that We were just dumping her off. One sad day for sure guys but when you look back........great step in life for them and obiviously for us parents!

My youngest DD, now in her last year, left last weekend and she too came home for more supplies, more clothes and more $$$$ this weekend and its not nearly as bad emotionally. :xyzthumbs

Numb

I would have to say after dropping my DD off last weekend and watching her leave last night to go back to school after coming home for the weekend that I am just numb all over. I am so proud of her that I could bust because now she is realizing what she's worked so hard to accomplish. I watch her trying to act big and tough like its no big deal but I know that she is scared and excited at the same time. She doesn't want ole dad to worry about his DD so she puts on the big brave front. Don't read me wrong she is glad to be where she is but she also knows that a time has come and gone in her life. Her childhood is now forever behind her. What she does now effects the rest of her life. She wants nothing more than to excel at the next level but she also wants dad to know that his DD is still thinking about him. Everybody keeps saying that they thought I would take it the worst and are surprised how well I have dealt with it. I have my quiet moments...But, I am happy and excited to see her take on her next challenge and adventure. What has made it the easiest for me has been the fact that the DD has a great roommate and an awesome head coach who she respects and is excited to have the opportunity to play for. She had a great coach at HS and now at college. I have already taken vacation time for spring break next year so I can watch the team play. Sorry, didn't mean to write so much...Believe me I could have written more... :applause:

 

Please write more Enka. This is a very entertaining thread. I wish I had a DD which brings me to the next question? Is it more difficult to have your daughter or son go off to school? Is there a difference? Is it different feeling for Mom than Dad?

very very nice thread with one headed out next summer, probably not to continue her playing career yet the roller coaster of feelings ahead has me on edge as a father, teacher, and her former coach whoa!!!!!!!! :huh:

 

Aw, c'mon, "O"... your daughter's such a sweetie that you guys'll be a big pile of mush when she goes. Maybe she'll do you a favor and be a total pain next summer so you toss all her stuff on the sidewalk at college with the motor running, but I don't think she's got it in her.

Thankful that he "made" it to his short-term goal of playing D1 college ball.
Thankful that he has a great roommate.
Thankful that he wants to be "on his own" and is ready for it!
Thankful that he has great morals, intregrity and conviction.
And thankful that he is only 1.5 hours away and we can still see him play ball!!!!!!

Sad? NOT at all (yet!)
