Elon plays us (Georgia) on Friday, and it will be our season opener. I'm expecting a lot from our team. We lost only one starter and our team can mash the ball. I'd like to see how well Elon plays against us

They will play well...and are pretty deep in pitching. I'd watch out for the Phoenix, Sockittome:)

Louisburg beats Hiwassee 16-1 and 7-1 on Saturday to complete the sweep. Combined, they beat Hiwassee 36-5.

Scott Ward (UConn signee) has a tremendous weekend hitting 4 HRs.
Erik Lovett (NCSU signee) went 6 for 8 or something like that as well.

    Some local guys of interest:

Woods Fines has a great start to his college career with a 1 hit, ~6 inning performance for the win in the first game.

Morgan Tyson got his first action with an inning striking out the first guy he faced collegiately.

Lousiburg appears to be very solid this year. Powerful hitting and some power arms with their starters and great depth in the bullpen. Going down to Florida this Wednesday where they will face teams like Chipola and Young Harris. Should be a great test this week not to mention that Florida in February is never a bad choice!

After traveling down to Winthrop yesterday, we packed up the caravan and headed up to Elon today. We talked about Winthrop on the way up and decided that they were going to be a great team this season, provided the pitching can hold up. It was the 3rd game of the season and the starter (a two-way player) threw 8 innings, including some pretty deep counts.

Better weather for traveling up than traveling back. Saw Winthrop-Maryland yesterday where Winthrop shut them out 8-0. Saw Elon hand it to Delaware State today, but not until after an early scare.

Delaware State jumped out to a 5-1 lead after 1 1/2 innings, knocking out the starting pitcher. He surrendered only 2 earned runs, and the early defense looked a bit shaky. Ryan Basham came in to relieve with 2 out in the 2nd and started posting "0"'s .... When he came out of the game in the 8th inning, Elon was up 16-5 and all of the scoring was done for the day.

So far this young season, that's 20 innings pitched by the bullpen of Elon with 0 earned runs surrendered. Elon was expected to be a good hitting club this season. They weren't expected to have a team ERA of 1.56

High Point waits on Elon in a Tuesday tilt, followed by a weekend trip to Georgia. It will be a very tough test for the Elon squad. Georgia is also a great team, just like Winthrop. Elon, so far this young season will have to settle on being a very, very good team.

Georgia won't have #1 closer in the country, Will Startup due to an ankle injury and they won't have All-SEC third baseman Josh Smith for breaking team rules. If anyone gets a chance to watch Georgia, look at 1B Josh Morris who had over 15 homers as a freshman and reliever Bo Lanier, who is scrawny and only about 5-9 and then he gets up on the mound and chucks it at 95. It's really crazy how he can get it up on the radar gun
