Basketball Playoff Expansion to 64 looks likely...

Looks like Basketball playoffs could be expanded to 64 teams next year from the current 48. What that pretty much means is that the conference regular season winners would lose their 1st round byes. Also a part of the deal would be a change in the Wild Card selection process only counting games within your classification.

But of course for a school like Crest, if they don't win the con., their playoff berth would be decided by 6 games if it was this year. 2 games vs Freedom, Ashbrook, and East Gaston. The rest of the con. is 3A and the county schools that Crest would play non-con are 2A and 3A.

 

McDowell and AC Reynolds are kinda in the same situation. Granted our conference schedule is 12 games, neither school plays another 4A school non-conference, with the exception of McDowell who plays in the Freedom Christmas Tourney which most years include at least one 4A school from Charlotte.

 

I forgot about the Freedom Christmas tourney. Crest plays in it, will see if that continues under a new coach, but that may only add one more 4A game.

YAHH, now another sorry butt WHS team can make they playoffs that they don't deserve to make. Wahoo.
