OPEN TO PLAYERS FROM BOTH STATES AND THE REGION, WE WANT THE BEST!

3rd ANNUAL BATTLE OF THE BORDER ALL STAR SHOWCASE SET FOR JUNE

.... Team Charlotte versus The Carolinas Region format announced for year three

The 3rd Annual Battle of the Border All Star Showcase is set to return this June. In just two short years, the event has grown into one of the top showcases of baseball and softball talent in the Southeast. The Baseball and Softball All Star Showcases will feature top players from the 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 classes. This year, the Battle of the Border will expand its original borders with a new and exciting format.

"We are very excited to announce this year's format which will place the top players from Mecklenburg and surrounding counties against the top players from across North and South Carolina," said Tripp Roakes, Co-founder of The Battle of the Border All Star Showcase. "One of our primary goals, especially with the underclassmen is to provide two outstanding rosters of talented players that will attract college coaches and professional scouts to our event. By opening up the borders to include players from both Carolinas and beyond against players from the Charlotte region, we will provide rosters loaded with potential collegiate baseball and softball players at every level The first two years we have welcomed over 40 college coaches and professional scouts to the underclass baseball games and by opening the event up to more players, we believe the 2011 games will attract even more coaches."

The 2011 Baseball event will be held June 12-15 at Winthrop University. The 2011 Softball event will be held June 20-21 at a location to be announced very soon.
In addition to the four nights of baseball games and the two nights of softball games, a showcase camp will be held for both softball and baseball players. The showcase will offer an additional opportunity for coaches to evaluate players during a pro-style workout.

"The showcase camps are open to all baseball and softball players who would like to display their skills to college coaches in a showcase style pro environment," said event Co-Founder Jeff Schaefer. "The baseball showcase has been a huge success the last two years, attracting over 100 players and 30 coaches and pro scouts. We are excited to add a softball showcase this season and we are working closely with college softball coaches to deliver a quality skills showcase ."

In order to be considered for a spot on any of the baseball or softball teams, a player needs to be nominated. Nominations can come from anyone and the nomination form is located at www.battleofthebordershowcase.com The nomination period is open until April 30th. Invitations will be extended the first week of May.

Last year there were too many girls on each team to justify the cost. Will this be addressed?

Puddles, Thanks for your opinion, this is an all star game,, best of three, it's not an event where a kid is going to play every inning of every game. They can do that when they play 6 games the weekend before under intense pressure, etc. There are many different components to an event like this,, the team rosters will have 18-20 girls and each girl will play in about half the total innings played.

We have found the girls and boys for that matter enjoy the event as much for the time spent in the dugout with friends from yesteryear as they do being on the field. Its a special time for the kids to relive past friendships that went away in many cases due to travel ball selections, parent decisions, etc. There are no politics involved, its pure softball with an emphasis on fun for the young players.

I have no clue who your daughter is, but I certainly hope she is having a wonderful season and please nominate her to play again if you so desire. Feel free to email me at [email protected] if you want to discuss any other concerns.

I know I am very excited about this year and I have added a second middle school aged game to highlight middle school sports and the effort I am involved with here in CMS to retain these opportunities for both the boys and the girls

What is the cost for a player? How far away from Charlotte have had girls come from to play in this event?

    Depends on which game,,,

This is the first year we have really made an effort to extend beyond the Mecklenburg and York County Areas,,, We did however take a few kids last year from Durham, Burlington, Sanford and the Foothills area.

This year, we have extended the region more, we want the best players that want to play in this fun event. We will welcome players from anywhere in NC and SC to compete against the team that will be made up from Charlotte area. I would even extend an invite to someone from another state that may be committed to play college ball in this region.
