I see where the new Charlotte high school, Berry Academy, is assembling its coaches. According to the Observer, they've named football, basketball, track, volleyball and soccer coaches.

Anybody hearing anything about their baseball coach? Could it be that they will visit the South Meck coaching farm and harvest from among the many seedlings there?:D :lurking::wave:

I have heard through a reliable source (myself) that Braves is the leading candidate for the position. His spelling has proven to be a problem. On the resume he submitted, I believe he asked to be interviewed for the position of "Red Conch, Honkbal" ....

They must have believed he was Dutch when they were reading his resume....

well..close, but what I actually said was this:

    Dear Sirs and Madams,

I heard through the grapevine that you all might be lookin' for a baseball coach.......well, that be good because I'm lookin' for a job.

Now, I must admit that I already applied for the Garinger job and I'm a still thinkin' about that NM AD job..

But for some reason, if I ain't got those jobs, I can be yours. Just call Nadine and leave a message and I'll get back atcha as soon as I can.

    Your new baseball coach

    Braves

Who would you all rank as some of the top assistants in this area that may be looking for a head coaching job? Would this school have any kind of budget and/or talent to work with? Would you hire a young guy looking to make a name for himself or a proven winner? Interested in hearing some of your comments and arguments.

Budman -- great question -- thanks for inviting us to play armchair athletic director.

There are many top assistants in the Charlotte area, several of whom would make great head coaches right away. No doubt some will answer with a list that starts with some experienced assistants who do a great job and have paid their dues -- I'll leave those guys, the more likely candidates, to others to suggest. If I were hiring, I'd go in a different direction. (I know, I know -- what else is new? :drunk: ) I'd pick a young, aggressive coach who could build a program and stick with it for a long period. I know some of the wise folks on here will disagree with me on this, but my top 5 candidates are all young guys. Here's my list of five guys I'd want to interview, not in any particular order -- I'd be happy to get any of them:

    (1) Danny Hignight
South Meck assistant has coached On Deck teams and is ready to run his own team. He has the right aggresssive attitude to take on a new program. I'm not sure if Coach Bags could get by with only 13 assistants, though. :D

    (2) Aaron Hammers
Independence assistant has had great success with the Carolina Blues -- his players love him. I'd hate to break up the Mennit - Hammers team, but I'd sure want to talk to him.

    (3) Louie Mitchum
Providence assistant may need another year or two, but he's good with players -- particularly pitchers, and is going to be a real good one.

    (4) Terry Stone
Myers Park assistant knows the game and has the right stuff if he's willing to commit the time and energy.

    (5) Mac Winget
Current student assistant at Appalachian, Mac is probably not quite ready to take on his own program, but I'd hire him in a heartbeat to make sure I get him, and then let him grow into the job. He may ultimately be the best of the lot -- and as a bonus he would be great in the classroom.

By the way, Original -- I have no idea about the Berry Academy situation -- I'm so out of the loop I didn't even know a new high school was about to open, and I don't have a clue where it is.
