A question to the high school coaches of this great game...Do you always put your best (9) on the field, then bring in your other players as the score warrants, or do you play the politics of the game ???? I have seen in the past players that are out of position or other players that could play a particular position better than the player that is occupying the position at the current time ( other words players out of position ). Sometimes influential parents actually run the team behind the scenes, IE....Good friends with the AD,or hang out with the coach on the weekends....Thoughts ????

At Ashbrook I start what I feel is my best 9. Only exceptions are Senior Night or if someone sits because of team discipline.

welcome baseball101 to this board rocks.

at our hs, we endevor to play our best nine or ten, but constant pressure is being put on us by a certain teacher who's daughter plays on our team. politics and internal pressure, pressure from the booster club are things that most every hs coach has to deal with. i was told not too long ago that one of the reasons why most schools are demanding that the head coach be a teacher at that school was a form of control. dont know if its true or not, but i know that politics affect most everyone, big school or small.

    NC?

do you alter the lineup for non-conference games, playing some of the sub's more innings, maybe actually letting them bat a time or two? AND ...
do you pitch best pitcher always against conference teams & maybe use 2nd pitcher against a strong non-conf team saving # 1 pitcher for Conf games??

    Not always....

Many times for our team it depends on the opponent. We give all kids a chance to start, although not equal playing time with the best 9. Best 9 has to start against the most talented teams on the schedule though.

If they are practicing hard and a valuable member of the team, they earn starts also.

If we didn't start the best 9 against the toughest teams don't think they keep you around long.

    9 Best

This is perhaps one of my favorite quotes:

    "I don't play my 9 best. I play my best 9."
