Thanks, I am honored to have my name mentioned in the same thread as some of the greats. but although I have been at Butler since day one along with Barry Eberhardt. I believe a coach, any coach is only as good as his players. At the HS level this is even more evident because we don't have the time it takes to build a player from the ground up Take any of the above mentioned and put us at a school that usually finishes low in the standings. It is my guess that we could make them better but not into a powerhouse program just because we showed up at the field. We have been blessed at Butler with girls that are awesome athletes and great kids year in and year out. Brian, Barry and myself along with the other coaches that have cycled through Butler would be the first to tell you that it is easy to look good as a coach when you get the players we have had over the years.
My thanks goes out to the players and parents that spend the time and money and put in the hours of practice with their DD. They are the ones that deserve all the credit.

Although I agree with Ray that your players make a difference, a coach(es) make a program. How good the program is relates to the dedication, commitment and standards that are set by those coaches. A bad coach can bring a program down.

I believe Ray has been the common denominator and instrumental of why Butler perennially are winners

Usually find that the best coaches come in teams

Don Ladd and Tony Williford - CF Storm (except when they make the decision to put marlin coaching first, lol)

John Corn and David Harris - Lady Lightning

Dale Thomas and Bill Peavey - Dominators

Not knocking any of the others mentioned. Just about everyone is a great coach and motivator.

But it would be pretty dang hard to be Marci if all other things were equal. She is one of the best, most organized practice coaches around and you can't out-think her.

The Providence HS team and Charlotte Cobras are blessed to have her.

She is tough, but fair and cares about every kid out there.

Is this a new job qualification or are you making reference to the administrative head of the school as in principal?

the only way they let a non teacher or faculty member coach is if they can physically show they have nobody else who will do it... its public education at its finest.

Now if the Tuna wasnt involved at Miami and his kid was attending a football HS with a rich tradition... well.....

I have to put a plug in for Derrick Hill at East Surry... he is one of the top coaches in the state at the HS level.

    Thanks, but no thanks...

.....Mama! My role with the Challengers 10u-12u, then Dominators 12u-14u, was ALWAYS as an offense/defense coordinator! The hardest part in COACHING is what the Head Coach does dealing with logistics, parents, playing time, schedules etc.!
Determining when to do what when at bat is the fun part.

BTW, there are many very good coaches in our family folks, and I thank each and everyone of of ya'll!!!!!!!

I would like to agree with Thad Fox as a vote getter. I would also like to add Daddydobber . Donnie has a passion for the game and I hope he stays around for many more years. I am really impressed with him and have been for years. How about Mike Carpenter from Bandys high. It seems every year he takes young players and somehow puts it all together towards the end of the year.

I don't know names but the coaches at Fred T Foard and Saint Stephens also do a great job.

On the travel ball side, how about Steve Harkey. Like him or not he is a heck of a coach. A really nice guy off the field as well.
