Used to be Coulwood Middle along with Coul-Oak Little League....Coulwood Middle used to have one of the best programs in the Charlotte area. They still have a pretty decent program, but due to a few new schools opening, it's not the same as it was when I went there (and of course before I went there).

    Best Feeder Programs

South Charlotte Middle and Quail Hollow Middle Schools have sent some pretty decent players to the South Meck and Providence programs...Little Leauge / Rec programs are pretty much over shadowed by AAU teams now.

    Best Feeder Programs

The best feeder programs are the AAU teams that are quality coached. The other day I picked up a Raleigh News and Observer and took a look at the box scores. Of the 12 kids that I had on my 12u AAU team I saw 9 of the kids names in the box scores as either mulitple hitters or winning pitchers or catchers. These kids are freshman and sophs this year. Many of the other names I saw were kids that we played against over the years in AAU. Many of the names I see on here from kids out west we played against over the years. CJ Beatty Justin Jackson Zack Vogler Madison Bumgardner and many more. We have five kids in our program that played AAU for several years. Four of them start on varsity and one is on the jv and will help us alot next year. Kids that get quality coaching and play top level competition at a younger age are way ahead of the other kids and will help a HS team much earlier. The best feeder programs are the AAU teams that feed into HS programs. When I started coaching at South Granville the only baseball the local kids played was local rec league. They had no idea what level of baseball was outside of our town. The only measuring stick was how good you were in Granville County. The baseball season for these kids consisted of 15 reg season games and one practice a week. Now we have four local travel teams that play AAU and USSSA. The team I coached was from the Raleigh Durham area with five kids that lived in Granville County. If you can find a quality coach that is willing to work with the local HS program you can take the kids that have a desire to work and improve and challenge themselves you can have an outstanding feeder program. Of course these kids can play Middle School baseball but that season is only 14 or 15 games. And who knows who is coaching it sometimes good and sometimes not. JMO

I believe that Greenville Rose's coach, Vincent, is the head man with the little league's in Pitt County. He get's after them at a VERY young age and molds them into his creations. Anyone know more about that?

Wake County struggles with "feeder" programs because of no middle-school baseball. Some schools play "club-ball" but it's not funded by WCPSS. West Raleigh Little League is a very competitive league that feeds most of its guys to Athens and Southeast Raleigh HS.

No doubt...to me its Matthews Athletic and Recreation Association (MARA). This organization is one of the largest in the NC. Every summer there are numerous rec level teams in every age group that bring home state titles (not just baseball but softball as well!!). This rec program has been impacted by pay-to-play programs but continues to survive.

MARA's districts (little league and Babe Ruth) ultimately feed into Butler, Providence, Independence and East Meck (and even Charlotte Christian and Latin). A large percentage of players at the schools have come thru MARA.

I know in the Wake County area there is a little program called West Raleigh. They've been producing players for the past 25 years, including Josh Hamilton, Landon Powell, Tim Federowicz, and the list continues to grow with every years recruiting classes. They did win a national championship last year in the 12u Babe Ruth League, which sadly gets less pub. than the little leauge.. along with that they had 4 state championships. The year before, they totaled 5 state championships in different age groups and the list can go on for years and years back. The Tri-7 confrence is dominated with these kids, i go to see a game and know about 3/4ths of the kids from west raleigh. check out the site.. www.westraleighbaseball.org . thoughts on thiss...?
