If i'm not mistaken Shelby was in the south eastern regionals because they were the host team they did not win the state championship.not saying they were not any good they just did not win to get there. i just do not like this host team thing.

There was a Rowan team (1996 maybe) that didn't win the state championship, but hosted the regional - won that and advanced to the World Series somwhere in the Pacific Northwest - in Oregon I think.

I'm not talking about the year they hosted it. It was earlier than that. They got there by winning the state.

Greenballz,,,, personally I believe the 2004 Kannapolis team was the best Kannapolis team in recent years. Most folks agree that the 2000 team simply peaked at the right time. The 2003 team had great pitching depth with 3rd round Cincinnati Reds draftee Zach Ward, UNC-G signee Lucas Dalton, and Blake Ketner (Catawba signee) and Garrett Sherrill (App.State signee) were actually the 4-5 pitcher's in that rotation,,,, but the 2003 team lacked the ability to put up a lot of runs.

However, the 2004 team still had Ketner & Sherrill on the mound but had all kinds of team depth defensively and offensively. Remember the Faggart twins were injured in 2004 and therefore didn't even play much in 2004 or the team would've been even stronger. The 2004 lineup still consisted of Brett Bartles, Kyle Seager, Ryan Petty, Jonathan Goodman,,,, then you had Sherrill, Boger, Query, McKnight, Hamilton, Burris, Worthington, Mead,,,,,,,,, man, this team could stink up the place for a few innings and still put mercy rules on teams with one big inning. Remember the 2004 team won the last 2 series in Area 3 by sweeping powerful Burlington/Greensboro teams by a combined score something like 70-10 in 6 games.

Rowan County hosted and won the southeast regional that year i beleive they beat Deland Florida in the championship game. Rowan county was beat out by Kernersville in the area Championship that year Whiteville won the state championship that year and lost 2 games in the tournament i think that was the year tyrell godwin played for Whiteville. David Trexler led the way for Rowan County, I can't remember the players back then i think Brian Whitaker was on that team. Maybe Daniel Moore They were a good team but did not win the area.

The 2001 Shelby Post 82 team was 35-7...Won the State tournament in Garner, NC....lost in the SE regionals in Albany, Ga. on a tiebreaker....Not filled with superstars, but a great team.....A few D1's (Taylor, Floyd, Ray)...A few D2's (Gold, Bolin, Lutz, Darnell, Davis)...A couple of JUCOs (McSwain, Powell)...Team.....

The 2002 Shelby Post 82 team hosted the SE regionals,...won 4 games, then lost in the championship game to Dothan, Ala. whom they had already beaten once....Both teams had same record and Shelby had beaten Dothan once, but Dothan won the last game,... the one that counted.

does anyone remember the ALB team from Johnston County about 1976 ? some players were Ray Tanner (the USC / NCSU coach) , Robert Poole (who invented a sports trivia board game) , Butch Bailey, Kyle Stephenson, Jimmy Montague (HS baseball coach at N. Lenoir - state 2A champs in 2005) , Michael Sorrell, former ECU player, others?

that team went maybe to the State semi-finals or finals? don't recall the details.
