If a player is a pitcher only, how important should the search be for college pitching coaches that have reputations for furthering the development of their pitchers? And, what research would be used to find these NJCAA colleges?

First of all, welcome to the Baseball Forum at This Board Rocks!

As a pitcher's father, it would be high on my list; and, the range of abilities and qualifications among pitching coaches is very broad.

I'd talk with two or three professional area scouts; ones who have scouted the relevant region(s) long enough to know whose pitchers advance while on campus and which ones side-slip or decline. This is of obvious importance to scouts, since they'd prefer that their prospects who go to college improve while there.

Assuming that you're asking on behalf of your son, best of luck to him!

An opportunity to see first hand

    Prepster...I promise...I'm not stalking you.

There are a couple of good Div 1 Juco's are facing off this weekend in Sumter. USC-Sumter v. Louisburg at Riley Ballpark in Sumter. (2 games Saturday & 2 on Sunday.) There should be plenty of scouts there.

According to NJCAA, USC-Sumter has two top 25 pitchers nationaly in Div1 Juco (#5 Tyler Smith, #19 Tyler Broome). Tyler Smith has been throwing mid-to-high 90's, record 7-0, 0.83 ERA, 72K in 54 IP.

I think i'm going down there. A good excuse to visit family.
