I want to start a thread about the Best of the West in 4A with a breakdown of talent.

What 8 teams do you expect to be the best in the West. Don't bring up teams with potential, getting better, etc... but let's discuss what 8 4A teams are ready to compete for the Western Finals.

I know Freedom will be good and one of my favorite teams to watch again. Can they finally beat Mcdowell? Can they finally beat Butler in postseason? How about Mcdowell without thieir leaders from last year? Who else?

I'll start with 3 from the Charlotte area, someone chip in on the mountain teams and remaining areas.

1.) West Charlotte - best in the Charlotte area, in my opinion, until someone proves thay can beat them. Three Division 1 players - at least, in Nikki Burton (Lousville), Christal Caldwell (Florida) and Jessica Freeman (new to West Charlotte following transfer from Butler). Other starters are stars and will play on the next level. Can anyone run with this team and handle the defensive pressure?

2.) Butler - reloaded and will be able to compete with anyone in the region. 4 Division 1 prospects including Celeste Stewart (East Carolina), Jaquaira Forney (new to Butler following transfer from West Meck - verbal to UNCC), Ceara Burdick (super sophmore transfer from South Meck - being recruited by everyone) and junior Clair Watkins. Their depth will allow very aggressive defense, as foul trouble will not be an issue. Finally, they will be athletic enough to play with West Charlotte but have to compete in conference against...

3.) East Meck - East Meck returns most of their starters and has an incredible class of incoming freshmen (tall, athletic and interchangable). This team will be loaded for years to come. Spencer is one of the best guards in the state with a propensity for hitting the big shot. This team was very successful last year, in summer leagues and team camps.

Man, I am ready for this season to start!

South Caldwell will be pretty good this year but will still be young. I look for them to give Freedom a run for their money. If the 2 freshmen coming in can produce and the freshman and sophmores from last year have matured look out. Lots of unknowns but I can promise you they will be in the top three at worst in the nw4a and could make a run in the playoffs
