Joe Ganote, graduated from one of the private schools in Charlotte, mid-to-late 80's, I can't remember which one (help me on this). Played in the minors for quite a few years. His claim to fame is he was the pitcher who gave up Michael Jordan's first base hit. As a bit of trivia, Joe's first baseman in that game was Chris Wenke (Carolina Panthers).

Randy Combs, Harding High grad, 1996. Randy was one of the few athletes at Harding in that time period. Played 4 years at Gardner-Webb, set school records in several catagories for hitting ( most doubles, triples, runs scored, not positive on all the catagories) and played 6 different positions while at G-W. Not bad for a kid who weighed 113 pounds as a high school senior.

Gary Robinson, Garinger graduate. As far as I know Gary is still the career batting average leader at Gardner-Webb, something like .430. Bull, can you help me here?

Eric Shanks, West Charlotte, went on to a succesful career at UNCC. He could flat-out play, fun to watch.

Daniel Bard, Charlotte Christian. Daniel is not only a dominant pitcher, but was one of the best HR hitters I have seen in high school....pure power!

Don't be surprised if Daniel is a Top 5 pick in the draft next year.

and somebody mentioned Ralph Roberts. Not many people had a more illustrious high school and Legion career. The kid was/is phenomenal.

    Jeremy Johnson- Mooresville

2 incredible seasons in the Detroit minor league system. Suffered season ending arm injury last season, but is ready to pick up where he left off. Great young man, great pitcher.

Gary hit between .460 to .480 in both his junior and senior year. I think he was a 1st team all-american also.

Ray Durham played at Harding when they won the state championship in 1988, I think he was a sophomore that year.. Ray received all-conference honors and was most recognized for his football play during high school, though. Scored 5 touchdowns in one playoff game. Drafted by the White Sox out of high school, currently playing second base for the San Franciso Giants.

Ray's younger brother, Chad, also played at Harding, graduating in 1995 or 1996. Also drafted by the White Sox. Like his older brother he could absolutely fly. More than once I saw a throwing error by an infileder on a grond ball because he knew he had to hurry.

There was a middle brother, Ronald Durham, that most thought was a better athlete than Ray or Chad but he had no desire to play after high school.
