Best Show Case Team

As usual w/ this bunch, someone is on the white side and some one is on the dark side, while the fact of the matter is it falls somewhere in the grey.
There is no right and wrong way to go about the recruiting process other than you have to go through the process.
It is virtually impossible to get recruited by playing high school ball...now before you get all wound up Phreak..i'm not pro TB..been involved w/ both. But i know for a fact unless you play for North Davidson, AC, Butler, or a select few others, it's just not going to happen. Even all these teams have their "own" TB teams.
Now what CB did w/ the original Cobra team was something special, and they are parlaying that into an "organization" that will be successful. However there have been teams there before. All these teams have done it both ways. The Cardinals have brought kids through "the ranks", Cape Fear Storm have done the same, along w/ many others. These teams have ALSO gotten kids from other organizations. The Cobras did that too.
You do NOT have to play for a BIG showcase team to get recruited, but you DO have to play for a showcase team. If you think you can play for Northside Lawn Mowers and Coach Papa is going to come watch you at Beeson Park it's just not gonna happen, i don't care how good you are.
Now if you want to play for a big school it does HELP to play for a big showcase team. They play in tourneys that Northside can NEVER get into. Cobras EARNED there way in, it wasn't given to them. So did the Cardinals, the Blues, and the others, just longer ago.
And Tater, i don't think i've ever seen a post onhere that said" thank SO & SO TB for getting Sally Softball a scholarship". I have seen so and so got a scholarship while playing for a certain travel team, and most of those ALSO list their high school team in that exact same statement.
You're right the credit goes to EVERYONE, but if you do that w/ some, TBR would be shut down in a day. The threads would just be too long.

Let it be what it is. The Cardinals, Blues, Lightning, CF, Comets, Flames, Challengers etc, etc, do a good service for these young ladies and are led by people who give their time freely to help them improve, get seen, or just play.

"First of all I'm not judging or saying what is right and what is wrong because it is obviously working, but if we are in fact mode let's go with the facts. You have someone who has access to all the ASA Rosters phone numbers etc, the ability to watch the girls perform at some of the largest showcase tournaments in our area and the resources to pay them to play so to speak. You take older girls that already know how to play (who have spent their formative years somewhere else) including some that are on the radar already and assemble a team."

Folks, I hate to get off the subject but I took this a little personal and would like to get to the bottom of it.

I agree that you do have to play for a "showcase" team. But only because there doesn't seem to be any non-showcase teams. Heck, there might even be 12U or 14U showcase teams!

I saw a non-showcase tournament this weekend. That sure brought back memories of softball! Maybe just my imagination but the girls seem to play harder in regulation games.

I have stayed away from TBR for most of spring and summer except to post the girls getting recruited and to congratulate kids from other teams. However, I continue to see the Blues mentioned as a group that recruits.
We started out as a first year 14U team made up of 11-13 year olds in fall of 2000. We took that team, made a few adjustments and kept them together till they all went to college, at least the ones that wanted to play college ball. Everyone were starters in college, five made all conference, and one was an all-american. Looks like we were OK at developing players. Since then we have assisted with 65 young ladies getting to play college ball and have had ages teams ages 12U to 18U. Notice, I said assisted. We helped them choose 10 to 15 colleges based on the major they were seeking, helped them prepare letters, e-mails and their profiles to assist them in the recruiting process. Further, we followed up with their e-mails to college coaches with our evaluation and support. We worked hard to get in the best tournaments we could find, to play the very best competition available, and provide quality coaching with a clear understanding of what it takes to play at the college level. Oh and our average GPA since 2000 for the teams we field each year is 3.75. Our lady excel in classroom as well as on the diamond.
All the other teams mentioned is this thread are quality teams and organizations and I have nothing but respect for what they have done and continue to do. I hope all of them get every single kid that plays for them recruited and win as much as possible. Cobras win the Nationals!
Many of you spend time talking as negative as possible about this team and that team and even coaches and kids! Get a life! Everyone of us should support the NC girls and their teams and let these kids enjoy the best time of their lives! If you are so unhappy with your life, keep it to your self!
One last word, Rick McHone is one of the finest gentleman I have ever met and has done more for softball and young ladies in general that most anyone else I know. He"'walks the walk" and does not have to talk about it.
Best to all coaches that stay involved for the betterment of the game and to assist these NC girls get better at the game they love.
Have a wonderful summer and fall season, sorry I will not get to see you a great deal this year.

 

When it comes down to it actions speak louder than words. You certainly have the results to back it up.

Not that this is important. Actually the orginial Carolina Cobras were started by the Furr's Randy and Scotty mid 90's i believe 1996 played the first couple of years slowpitch as my sister was on the team.
