According to the Kinston Free Press, ECU landed another 2010 commit in Kinston HS catcher Joshua Lovick.

    BIG Catcher

I had the pleasure of calling the game tonite between the Rocky Mount River Dogs and ER Lewis of Greenville where Chase made his catching debut.....OF course I was not able to see a pitch for 6 innings so I called everything by sound alone...luckily Chase pitched the 7th inning so I was able to see one inning of the game.

The crowd was in shock in the 3rd inning when Chase accidentally broke wind and it blew me up against the backstop.

fcpirate's son had a good game for the winning team as the final score was 7-2...the head coach told me that it was the first win in 4 years against a Greenville team.

This was a senior babe ruth game.

Said you sat on his shoulders to call balls/strikes for 2 innings, until they let you use the ball bucket to stand on...heeheehee

Yeah, football camps, trips and Jr Bath Ruth League tourney took a lot of the players, so they rolled up with 9 players...but sounds like they had fun either way... and had an adventure at a local McDonalds in a rather sketchy part of town...lol

Tonight reminded me of why baseball is such a great sport. The difference in tonights game was the pitcher for Rocky Mount, Jess Lancaster. Jess located his fastball well, threw his curveball for strikes and has a nice little splitter working to get some ground ball outs.

This was in all likelyhood the last baseball game he will ever play and he throws the best game of his life. He has a family trip that he will leave for tomorrow and the season will be over when he gets back. Jess graduated from Faith Christian a few weeks ago and is going to NCSU as a student but will not be playing baseball. He played first base and was the back up catcher for Faith Christian, he threw probably 10-15 innings all year and I do not think he threw any on varsity baseball prior to this year. He went out tonight and threw more pitches than he has ever thrown in a game. I have coached him for the past 3 summers and know that he has never thrown more than 3/4 innings in a game.

Jess is a wonderful Christian young man, exactly the type of kid you would want to marry your daughter. He absolutely loves baseball, never missed a practice and always gives you his best effort. While Jess will not play college baseball nor get the privilage to get drafted and sign a pro contract he goes out and throws a complete game win in his last game- he will take that with him the rest of his life.

    Congrats Jess- well done.

That reminds me of my son Scott. Scott graduated from Rose in 2008 so he was on the state champ team but did not get an opportunity to pitch much at all in his hs varsity career. He played for ER Lewis last year, just for the fun of it even though his baseball career was basically over. His last game he ever pitched was a gem against Ayden-Grifton. It was a great way for him to end it. After the game RV said maybe he should have pitched Scott more...lol! Scott is now a sophmore at ECU, and was head coach for a 13 yr old Greenville Prep team (Lou Beach's Bingo) this spring. His younger brother Paul had more baseball acclaim (even though a shoulder problem messed up the last six weeks of Paul's sr yr), but I am just as proud of Scott as I am his brother of course. Those two boys made being a dad an easy job.

Thats a great way to finish out... but not necessarily the end!? Club ball is a great way to hang on to the game a little longer, for those who don't play for the NCAA team! I have been to some of the ECU Club team games and was enjoyable and the guys get after it. Some of those kids had opportunities to play somewhere, but chose to go to school and enjoy the Club Ball seen greatly! I would encourage him (if he enjoys the game) to give it a try!

    Congrats on the win, btw!

Chase hit an absolute jawdroping bomb:omg: last night in the 16-18 Babe Ruth State all-star tourney. Still going up as it went over the lights in left field. Literally have never seen a ball hit anywhere near that hard by a high school kid.

    Simply amazing to see.
