Here's my $.02 on this topic:

    1) Teams should not press in situations in where they are leading by a great margin. Bigdan is right, a zone defense is best, possibly a 2-3, 1-3-1, or a 2-1-2 would be best. If any pressure is needed, token pressure (or just light pressure in getting the ball up the court to prevent a stall) is decent. Once the ball has reached the timeline, the defense should back off and resort to the zone.

    2) Teams with a big lead shouldnt run and gun. In this situation it's best to run a simple, half-court game. The offense should look for basically, an open, uncontested shot or basically try to look to score from the back door screens and layups. Just work the ball around and try to take the best shot instead of going after the first option and taking a lousy shot.

    3) Teams with the big lead should not foul or take unneccessary timeouts. The timeouts only delay the game and the fouls only stir up trouble.

You have to see what your reserves can do in garbage time situations. Just throwing the ball around and not taking shots isnt finding out what they can do in game time situations.
