    Clarification please

Okay - so once again confusion reigns.....

Read on another TBR thread where an "07 player has committed to so and so school.

Is this kind of committment one of those "verbal" ones, initiated by the player? Per NCAA rules, I didn't think a player could officially be picked up by a school until after July 1 of his Junior year.

Or is this one of the following situations?:
If so, I would assume that just because the student has committed, doesn't mean for sure that he will go to that particular school - maybe the student will change his mind, or maybe the coach could end up filling his need with another player by the time the actual signing period comes along?????

This is like being Alice in Wonderland .............

You can commit at any time you want and colleges can say they want you (There are specific limits here as to when and how, example you may be at a camp at their school, you might schedule an un-official visit, etc.). But you are correct that nothing is firm until you sign a NLI. The earliest you can sign as of this year is in the Fall of your senior year, roughly 2nd week in November.

Committments get broken all the time. Mostly by the players.

But not nearly as often in baseball as compared to the other sports. In general, college baseball recruiters are very good about backing off once it is known that a particular player has committed. If committments break, they tend to break after the player participates at their school...resulting in transfers.
