    Notes from Scouts/Recruiters Corner:

Game 1 at Millbrook pitted undefeated Fuquay against Leesville Road. All I can say is Fuquay is as good as advertised. They hit the ball extremely well. Travis Bradley of Fuquay pitched an outstanding game.

Game 2 @ Millbrook saw Athens Drive against Broughton. This was the most competitive game of the day - as the score would indicate. Kyle Haithcock was impressive as he went the distance for Athens Drive. Although he took the loss, Jason Buckley pitched well for Broughton as did Daniel Brown in relief.

Game 3 @ Millbrook matched Roxboro Person against Garner. Will Medlin, Garners lefthanded ace was simply sensational in the complete game shutout. The Person batters never seemed to get comfortable at the plate as Medlin mixed his outstanding curveball with his fastball and occassional changeup. Even in the loss, Jeremy Peed was impressive on the mound for Person.

    Athens Dr/ Broughton, Fuquay/Leesville, Ganer/Person

Box score is incorrect - Athens scored all runs in first 3 innings - they were able to hold on with help from 3 incredible plays - cf (DiMuro) made a diving over the shoulder catch after a long run, Haithcock snagged a line drive right at him and turned a dp and the 2nd baseman ended the game with a diving play on a hard hit grounder that would have tied the game.

Broughton relief pitcher Brown came in with 2 on and 1 out in the 3d, and picked off runner on 2nd before throwing a pitch - finished with 2 2/3 innings and 6 k's, 4 looking - Haithcock pitched well also, and had that great defense behind him.

Fuquay definitely looks like the top dog in the area - Leesville hung in for a while, but Fuquay is strong all the way down the line up, they make all the plays and the pitchers throw strikes - SS Lee Dickens had a 2 run single after fighting off a bunch of 2 strike pitches to really break it open and RHP Ross Barnett closed it out.

Have seen Will Medlin pitch many times - no surprise with what he did - he competes and knows how to pitch

    millbrook vs garner

Millbrook senior Travis Smith and Garner senior Zack Howell locked up in a pitchers' duel in the nightcap.
Smith gave up five hits and struck out six. Howell allowed three hits and recorded nine strikeouts in the loss.
Garner's unearned run in the top of the third came on an RBI single by Pat Monahan.
In the bottom of the inning, Millbrook's Garrett Redmond singled, Ryan Hanks singled in Redmond, and Smith delivered the winning run with a sacrifice fly. "Travis did a great job of leading our team," Schrock said. "He did what a senior does. He went right after their hitters and challenged them."

    4/3/08

    Garner 10, Person 0
    PER - 000 000 - 0 5 1
    GAR - 000 442 - 10 9 0

WP- Wil Medlin This LHP was impressive as he kept Person Hitters off balance.
    LP - Jeremy Peed (2-3)

    Leading Hitters:
Garner - Will Medlin 2-4 (2B, 2 RBI), Austin Gulley 2-3 (HR, 4 RBI), HUnter Brown 1-3, Jeremy Conyers 1-3, Jordan Young 1-3, Dillon Creech 1-1 (RBI)

Person: Jeremy Peed 2-3, Ricky Crabtree 1-3, Stephen Wright 1-3, Marc Davis 1-1

Garner came out ready to play as usual. The Rockets were lethargic on the field and the performance showed it.

    4/4/08:

    Person 9, Cary 1

    CAR - 000 000 1 - 1 4 1
    PER - 400 014 0 - 9 9 1

    WP - Dylan Dickens (3-2) (CG, 1 ER, 4 hits 9 K's, 1 BB)
    LP - David Ronan

    Leading Hitters:

Cary: Percy Evans 1-3, Brett Colyer 1-1 (RBI), Hunter Carr 1-2, Brandon Wojochowski 1-2

Person: Trey Davis 2-3 (2-2B), Travis Vaughan 1-1 (2 RBI), Marc Davis 1-3, Ricky Crabtree 1-3 (2B, RBI), Stephen Wright 2-4 (RBI), Geoff Watkins 1-1 (2 RBI), Brandon Wrenn 1-2 (RBI, run)

Person came out and put 4 quick runs on the board before Cary brought in Hunter Carr in relief of starter David Ronan. Carr pitched well giving up 4 runs in 4+ IP.Person executed much better and FR / RHP Dylan Dickens was superb on the mound.

The Rockets offense was sparked by the awakened bats. The team played well defensively and offensively in this game

Cary had an impressive 11-4 win over Millbrook in the game immediately prior to the Rockets-Imps clash.

    Latest Changes

The latest news is that the Leesville-Apex game this week will NOT be added to the tournament, instead Northern Durham has forfeited their originally scheduled game against Apex, allowing Apex to finish as the #1 seed and will face #2 seed Green Hope in the championship game at 7:30 on Sat. April 19 at Millbrook high school. Don't know the rest of the Day 3 schedules ?

Kind of a bad deal for the 2007 defending Bobby Murray champions - undefeated Fuquay Varina (14-0) - as Apex only had to play one game for their lowest total runs against. But rainouts have just played havoc on the tournament, and at this point, anything to get it finished is probably for the good.

Latest Changes for Day 2 games
Bobby Murray: Northern Durham (0) vs Apex (7) - FORFEIT
Bobby Murray: Apex vs Leesville - REMOVED
