OP, we had that same crew in our game. We felt your pain. I am very familiar with most ump's in the Raleigh area and I had never seen either one of those guys. Thought they rode in on the Guilford Co. Bus with you guys.

That's what it was. We probably just forgot to pay them.

What is going on with umpires these days, are there any good ones out there?? It's one thing to have a guy with no clue about a strike zone, but I've been to several games like the one above and umps don't even know the rules. I haven't seen it this bad since my son was in Little League, six years ago.

I think 95% of umpires are good. They all have little differences in their strike zone. That's fine as long as it's consistent, and almost all are. I think the other day we just ran into a guy that may have been a little old and frankly, I think he got rattled. The Millbrook coach went nuts on him, then their fans really teed off on him as did the players. Then the Ragsdale group noticed some of the same that the Millbrook group saw, both for and against them and the ump appeared to lose credibility. We noticed some calls that went our way that we felt maybe shouldn't, then we saw some go against us that were poor. the 2 bunt situations set everything off because it appeared he did not know the rule. I think he knew the rules but just lost track of the situation. But combine it all together and it appeared he seemed to lose control of the game. People were on this guy unmercifully. At first I was as disappointed as most fans but the more I watched the more I felt sorry for the guy. I really believe he got rattled.

It's a tough game to call anytime but when fans, coaches and players are all screaming that would be hard not to get rattled. I was at a St. Stephens game the other day and the announcer even announce(no class) over the loud speaker that the umpire had made a bad call! Talk about a crowd getting on an ump, but to his credit(he must be deaf) he held his cool and didn't get ratted.I give all umps credit for even getting out there in a job where people feel you are wrong 50 % of the time!
