    Big Day for NC Basketball

Western North Carolina teams were the winners in 3 of the 4 games. They represented the State of North Carolina very well.

    East Meck - 42
    Princess Ann, VA - 39

    St. Michael, NY - 66
    Norcross, GA - 61
    Overtime

    Butler - 58
    Bishop McNamara, MD - 46

    West Charlotte - 80
    Forestview - 59

East Meck played in a struggle against Princess Ann, winning in a closely fought battle. Princess Ann had a very tall center that was the primary scoring option - 23 points out of team total 39. East Meck's Spencer and Tellier were the difference.

Butler looked very impressive against Bishop McNamara. This was a very up - tempo game but Butler's ability to handel full court pressure was the difference. Celeste Stewart had 21 points and Watkins was big in the middle.

West Charlotte dominated Forestview, with a 30 point lead in the 3rd quarter. They played a lot of reserves in the 4th and ended up winning by 21. Burton had 23 and Caldwell had 24 to lead West Charlotte.

    Tomorrow's matchups:

    East Meck vs Butler
West Charlotte vs St Michaels, NY
Bishop McNamara, MD vs Princess Ann, NY
    Forestview vs Norcross, GA

    All Charlotte Final

    West Charlotte - 71
    St Michael's, NY - 57

St. Michael's, ranked #1 in the USA by ESPN, played without 3 starters due to injuries. Even with 3 starters missing, they are a very good team. Quality win for West Charlotte.

    Butler - 62
    East Meck - 47

Butler led by 13 at halftime and maintained a 10 point lead or so during the entire second half.

West Charlotte vs Butler tomorrow at 3:00.

This will be the first time in the 9 year history of the Bojangles Shootout that a Mecklenburg County team has won the Girls division.

I do not know the score of the other two games yet.

    Butler Wins

    Butler - 62
    West Charlotte - 54

Another awesome game between these 2 teams.

Following a halftime tie at 27, Butler outscored West Charlotte by 11 in the 3rd Quarter to take 48 - 37 lead into the 4th quarter. They held on despite several impressive runs by the Lions to win by 8.

Despite the Butler height advantage, West Charlotte was successful on the offensive boards. I do not know what the stats will indicate, but it seemed like West Charlotte had a huge advantage on the boards and a lot of second chance points.

Neither team shot the ball particularly well and the 4th quarter was pretty sloppy - probably due to the 3rd game in 3 days against very impressive competition. Butler's low post players seemed worn down in the 4th quarter.

Both teams used some interesting strategy - West Charlotte was very patient on the offensive end - almost slow down and deliberate. Thsi was probably due to the 3rd game in 3 days and their lack of a deep rotation. Butler used their small forward - J Forney at point guard for a lot of the game.

I have been extremely impressed with Nikki Burton from West Charlotte (Louisville commitment) during both games with Butler. She had a great first half, especially on the offensive boards. She went down with an ankle injury late in the first half and, although she recovered and played well in the second half, it appeared she was not 100% following the incident. This may have been a factor in the outcome of the game.

What an achievement for this team! It is the first time a local team has won the National Girls Division of the Bojangles Shootout in the 9 year history of the event.
