The rest of the Boyz from the Boot Camp!

2010 - Britt Kuchen - Pine Forest HS - OF/2B - Energy! Confidence! Sitting on go and ready to go! No lack of confidence in this young man. He talks the talk and he walked the walk. Britt is a compact kid with a strong body especially for an 2010 player. He absolutely attacks the baseball with each swing. He can get a little long at times and he chases up out of the zone as well at times. But you can always tone them down a bit but Im not sure you can turn them on if you know what I mean. Britt needs to let the ball get deep away like most guys. He has tendency to over swing at times as well. But he has a sound swing and a great approach. Britt is a very good player. And he will be heard from again no doubt.

2008 - Keith Goodwin - South Granville HS - SS/1B - Keith plays out of posistion for us. His best spot is at 1B but he plays the middle for us. Keith has a tendency to get long on his swing at times. He tends to drop the hands on launch and cast his arms at times. But when he stays short he shows tremendous power and the ability to drive the ball to all fields. Keith has very good bat speed and is very good on balls middle away. Keith is hard worker and a great young man. I look for him to have a great senior year for us. He will make someone a great 1B at the next level. Tremendous defensive player and alot of upside at the dish.

2008 - Josh Allman - Swain HS - P/OF - Hits from the leftside with a very good approach. Honestly I was shocked at how well he swung the bat. I mean this kid can hit. He is headed to Tenn as a LHP. Josh is a very good hitter with a great approach at the plate. He works backside very well and shows really good gap power to both fields. He has a short swing and I bet he has a tremendous year at the plate for Swain. I sure wish we had that stick in our line up. Not to mention that nasty stuff he brings from the leftside on the hill. He is a great young man.

2008 - Justin Norwood - South Granville HS - OF/1B - Justin struggled today at the plate. He just finished up with football a couple of weeks ago and he needs alot of work. His swing was long and he was casting bigtime. Justin just needs to swing it alot and work hard each day. I have seen him swing it well in the past and I have no doubt he will get it going. Great young man and tremendous work ethic. He will get it done.

2008 - Grant Johnson - Rocky Mount HS - 2B - Grant has a really short compact swing. He is really short to the zone. Grant does not get much of his lower body into this swing process. This is one reason he really doesnt show a ton of power. But he sprays the ball to all fields and hits alot of line drives. I bet he hits for a high average this year for Rocky Mount. Grant needs to work on letting the ball get deeper especially away. But he does alot of very good things at the plate. You can tell he is well coached by Pat Smith at Rocky Mount.

2008 - Jim Leggett - Rocky Mount HS - P/OF - The top 08 pitcher still on the market in NC. Period no if ands or buts. Jim is probaly going to get his shot at being a posistion player this year in the outfield when he is not on the hill. I was impressed with Jims bat speed and his ability to get his hands through the zone. He hammered the ball middle in. Like most of the guys he struggled on the pitches away and either hooked around them or hit them too far out front. But he definitely showed some very good hitting ability. Jims got very good bat speed and a nice looking stroke.

2009 - Ben Fish - Rocky Mount HS - C - I love this young man. What a great kid. Ben has a great baseball body he is athletic and physically strong. He hammered the baseball today. He hit at least three out and thats saying something at our place. He hit numerous line drives and deep gap shots to both fields. Ben has a nice compact stroke and keeps his hands inside the baseball very well. I was very impressed with Ben today. He was one of the top hitters all day long. Ben is a hitter. He has very good power and it seems he is developing even more.

2008 - Pratt Maynard - South Granville HS - 3B/P - Pratt hits from the leftside and yes he can ton it. Pratt continues to get better and better everyday. Pure sweet lefthanded stroke with power for days. He hammered several balls out to rf and one to cf. Numerous line drives and the ball just explodes off his bat. NC State got a pure power guy with Pratt. Its fun to watch him swing the bat folks. Pratt is getting better everytime out. Now thats scary.

2008 - Jeff May - South Granville HS - C - Jeff was over swinging in his first round but still managed to power a couple out to deep lcf. He was letting his hips fly open a bit but made the correction in his next two rounds of bp. May hit several line drives and gap shots along with his share of homeruns on the day. May just has power. Coach Partin calls hit raw power. Im not sure what it is all I know it comes off his bat really hard. Tremendous batspeed and power for days. UNC recruit and along with Maynard will need to have another great season to give us a chance to compete.

2008 - Matthew Large - West Stanly HS - P/CF - Matthew had a really good showing today. He has a nice approach at the plate and really stung the baseball. What I really liked was the fact that if he had a bad swing he got right back in there and hammered the next pitch. He was really good on middle in and balls down in the zone. Again like most guys he needs to let the outside pitch get deeper and use the whole field. But at times he did just that. Matthew is a great kid and works very hard. He is a very strong kid and I bet he has a great senior year for West Stanly. Matthew is a very good looking baseball player.

Man, what a day!! Thanks to Kenny for allowing me to hang out today!! The kids who attended were excited and seemed to have a blast!! It was a pleasure to watch these young men. I saw these young hitters improve as the day went along. It was nice to see kids ask questions, heed advice and then improve. Like Kenny told them today, and I firmly believe this... the players who get better will work more and harder when nobody is watching... That says a whole lot about character. I hope they learned as much as I did today (never a day in the game that I dont learn something)!!

    Coach-

    Couple of things...

    1. I need one of those bumper stickers!!
    2. Are you sure the man behind the windshield decal wasnt Braves' alter ego??
    3. Those pintos were awesome!!! If cornbread had been available, well, I'd still be there!!

Thanks again for letting me take part...

Braves doesnt know what he missed!!

Man we had a ball didnt we? It doesnt get any better than that. Ok I got to tell everyone about the pick up truck I saw on the way to the park Saturday morning.

Jacked up truck , deer box filled with hunting dogs. Painted on the tailgate
"When this tailgate drops , the Bull Sh*t Stops!" Classic boys pure classic.

    Thanks Coach May!!!!!!!!!

Man, what a great day! Catching up with some friends, seeing some great talent on the field, and the PINTOS:chef: I was a little shocked that I was the only one who put ketchup on them. Like the others, if I would have had some cornbread and milk to make crackling, I would still be there eating.

For those of you that missed it, you need to catch the next one. First thing my son asked me after we started home from the McBride's was where can we get a big tire? Left handers aren't the sharpest tools in the shed!!!!!! Folks Coach May has alot to offer young people who aren't afraid to work and want to get better.

Want to know why Jeff and Pratt and even Chris Luck can mash? Watch the workouts Coach puts them thru. No for the faint of heart!

Alot of quality players that I enjoyed watching swing the bat and interact in the field.

Once again thanks go out to Coach May, Coach Evans, all the coaches from SG, Chris Luck, the ladies in the concession stand for the PINTOS. I would drive down there every weekend to take part in something like this. My son and I enjoyed every second of it and the information learned is invaluable. Thanks again for everything Coach May, you truly are one of a kind!!!!!!!!!

Thanks also to Mr. Leggett for the peanuts!!!!!!!

Coach 27, Thanks for the day from the boys from Webb. It's always nice to see how the other half (Granville Co.) is doing especially when we know you guys must be doing something right on your end. Nice for our guys to be around high profile players as well, and actually see them working so they understand nothing was given to them. Really looking forward to a day when you can ride to Oxford and see more of our guys, whether it be at Webb or at the warehouse. Check your PM's for a possible day during the holidays to ride up. I know our guys would like to see some of your big boys up this way as well. I'll return the batting practice favor, too.

    Thanks Guys!

It was great to see my baseball friends on Saturday. Kevin you mean those guys didnt put ketchup on their pintos? I ate about three bowls when I got home. It was an absolute blast being on the field with players that love being on the basball field as much as I do. When you get a chance to spend some time with players like this how can you pass it up? My only regret was I couldnt hang out with you guys on the other side of fence.

My hope is that every kid took something home with them that they can use to get better. I certainly do not have all the answers. But I do believe the things that make the difference are free. Hard work , dedication and a love for the game. There is no doubt that the boys at this camp have these essential qualities. It sure was fun to see all those young men that we otherwise would have never known or seen. We made some new baseball friends. And we got to spend some time with our buddies in the game. Have a great Christmas. I cant wait to hear about all the great things these boys do this spring in HS.

Kenny,Thanks for the opportunity to join you guys and allow our players to take part in such a great event.More kids need to hear those things more often-I know i preach it to my players and it's good they can hear it from someone else.It was a treat to see so many Big Time players there and see them work. Our relationship goes back along ways and we have competed against you forever, but you know the respect I have for you and your program-I can't believe your "baby" is a Senior-I've seen him grow from a batboy to a monster at the plate, but one thing is certain-he is as good a young man as he is player.Wish you and your family a happy and safe holiday.BTW, I bought my wife one of those stickers for X-Mas.

    Thanks Jeff

It was great to see you and get to spend some time on the field with you again. I really enjoyed getting to know some of your players they are fine young men and very good baseball players. Our program has the utmost respect for the way you have always done things. Jeff learned alot from watching your teams over the years. And from watching players like Matt Ellington , Blake Montgomery , John Pecora , Dustin Richardson and many many more. Players have no idea how much they can influence youngmen watching the game. Your guys were always positive role models and a pleasure to watch play the game. I look forward to this spring when we can compete again. People like you and Coach Evans sure make it a whole lot more fun. See you soon Coach. Merry Christmas. And please pick me up one of those stickers!

    A Great Day

I had two bowls of Pinto beans. I'm pretty sure I was the first customer!

The drills were great to watch. I have to admit that I was a little worried for my son when I saw the size of that tire but somehow he "got it done."

I couldn't help "inching" closer and closer during the 10am talk Coach May gave. I got fired up just listening. "Don't get outworked" It's as simple as that.

My son had a great time and learned a lot from some outstanding baseball people. I'm so glad I brought him.

I enjoyed meeting a lot of the TBR posters. Pratt's Grandpa is cool. He's seen and done about all there is to do.

    A+ Event.
